Just my 2 cents worth Derek, I have purchased 4 camping cooking/camp oven books, have listed in order of preference from a newbies prospective, hope the information helps you.

I think a most Authors forget about the Newbies, Ina Casburn book has shown me it's not all that hard, think she has used the KISS method (keep it simple stupid) think what most authors forget is that the people looking at these books have never had or have had very little exposure to camp ovens.

My favorite book

I purchased this book at Gosford Caravan Camping show

This book has a wealth of information for the Newbie

Wollondilly River Station
How to cook in a Camp Oven
Written by Ina Casburn
Cost $10.

Website www.wollondillyriverstation.com
Pet friendly bush camping and camp oven cooking.
Wombeyan Caves Rd via Mittagong 2575

This book has only 43 pages but the 43 pages are jammed packed with information, for those not sure about camp oven cooking it's great.

I would say she has produced and printed this book herself and to my way of thinking is a wonderful book for beginners.

Contents of the book is as follows

Wollondilly River Station - proprietors
Prologue
How to select and buy a new camp oven
Cast iron camp ovens
Steel camp ovens
Cast aluminum camp ovens
How to clean and break in a new oven
Useful accessories, welding gloves, trays and plates.
Bake paper, Windshield
My camp oven has no legs
Cooking stand
Your fire, heatbeads
Charcoal
You can start your cooking, Check your temperature
What you don't do
Never hurry your cooking
weather conditions
Use your camp oven to it's full potential, cook on your lid!
Cleaning and maintenance
You can use your camp oven at home
Recipes

Viv Moon's outdoor Cookbook cost me twenty odd dollars and is an interesting read, has 118 pages with lots of interesting tips and recipes

Has information on meal planning, food prepartion and packing
Quarantine regulations and checkpoints
Packing and storing fruit, vegetables, bread & eggs
General everyday food items
Campfire cooking items
General cooking items & utensils, also miscellaneous items
Outdoor cooking know how

Camp oven cooking made easy with Tommo, cost me $20 plus
63 pages in this book. 2nd time around I would not buy this book again

Has some good recipes but not a great number of them, really hate the though of paying for advertisments, in the front cover there is advertisments for IGS supermarkets, Middle of the book is an add for Brisbane Motor Camper Centre and on the back page Hyundai Terracan

Jack & Reg Absalom Outback Cooking in the Camp Oven, cost me twenty odd dollars and I am disappointed in it overall, 110 pages in this book.

The part of this book I really enjoyed was the funny stories section.
A lot of the recipes in this book are game meats, Kangaroo, Rabbit, Duck etc, can tell you I am not a hunting girl.

Even though this book has a large number of pages it does not have half the recipes of information that Viv Moon's book has.
2nd time around I would not buy this book either

Sorry about the long post Derek, just some thoughts from a Newbie camp oven cook

Cheers
Kate

Thanks for that Kate.  I am thinking of eventually putting all my thoughts to paper and doing something similar.

G'Day Derek,
I've started to put together a Camp Oven Cookbook and the table of contents is very similar to that of Ina Casburn's. The quote to print it was $4750/1000 copies. It might as well be $1,000,000. It is just abount finished and contains approx. 80 recipes plus all the How to and genral care intros.
IT'S YOURS - prefer you reply by email if interested. I have cooked approx half the recipes to be sure they go OK. My health has gone south, hence the gesture (Moneys a bugger too).
Regards NED
