hi all been watching this site for awhile and decided to get into the camp oven cooking a bit more. So the first question is has anyone used a camp oven made from Southern metal spinners if so do they work with just the gas on the bottom for cooking bread and the like. As i am considering buying one and you people defineately seem like the people to ask

Regards Chef

Hi Chef and welcome to the site.

Check out this thread for the Camp Oven Mate. http://www.aussiecampovenforum.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1157252368

They sure do work.  My first think to cook using one was a Rum & Raisin Damper.

Thats strange.  It should fit in it. Look at the pics below.  While that isnt a Furphy, it is a 12" oven.  It is a snug fit.

Hi Derek
yeah the handle lugs on the furphy are very big and they will not fit into the mate at all which is a real pain as I bought it to use with the furphy I have tried everything short of actually modifying the mate which I would prefer not to do so I will talk to SMS about the larger one I have no idea why the furphy is an issue
