This weekend I visited a great little camp ground near Aratula called The Gorge.  Decision made to hold the next south east Queensland COG there.

Have set the date as the weekend of 27/28 June 2009 and days either side for those who want to stay longer.

Please indicate on the poll above if you can come.  When I get numbers I will make a booking although it is expected this weekend will be relatively quiet.

It will be winter and will be cold so be prepared but myself I love camping in winter.

Aratula is half way between Warwick and Brisbane (hour from Brisbane) on the Cunningham Highway.  Handy if anyone is coming up from down south via New England Highway.

PLEASE CLICK ON PHOTOS FOR LARGER SIZE

...

The Gorge camping ground is downstream from Lake Moogerah.

...

Camping fees are $3.00 per person per night with $1 per night for day visitors.  We will need to provide all wood with wood unable to be collected from the nearby bush areas.

...

Below photos of the area that would be suitable for us.  Spoke to the on site caretaker and they are keen for us to attend. As you can see there is a ready made fireplace outside a good covered area and this has been suggested as the best area for a group gathering.

...

The toilet block is nearby and has flushing toilets

...

The showers are primitive.  Fill the bucket and pull the lever

...

Hot water for showers is by way of the old copper or home made donkey

...

Here are two of the single camp grounds alongside the creek.  These though are away from the main fire area

...

It is the weekend before we depart on our 2 month trip.

I may plan it as a shakedown trip and get away with it that way....

so it is a maybe right now.

OK then, I'll have to get there early to do an emu parade through those excellent antique/second hand stores in Aratula first. Grin

Looks like a brilliant venue- Like big Kev would say, I'm excited. I'll pack up the Bass 'n' Gear too.

Oh, I also left a business card with them so they can call me when they next get some old camp ovens in.  Cool
