We like a savory French toast in our house. I use the eggs and a little milk. But I serve mine with a sprinkling of grated tastey cheese and some paprika. Yum.
The other way I like to do it, which is really decadent, is to cut a hole in the middle of the bread slice and cook the egg inside it. This recipe takes up lots and lots of butter, so is quite rich (not to mention not really good for cholesterol or those watching their weight) and when I flip it over I sprinkle with  cinnamon and mixed spice.

What do you use?

Just milk and eggs, Carolyn
Then we top with the cinnamon and castor sugar mix.
Salt and pepper is the alternative if not in a sweet mood.
No sign of cream and butter.

Smiley I have to admit thinking of you and the preferences we share.  The real recipe used 1/2 and 1/2 which I dont think is available here but you would be proud of me I was strong and didnt use half cream and half milk  Cheesy  Cheesy

Also that Brioche bread already was rich and full of butter and eggs so I didnt slather the real butter on  Smiley

What do you use?

Sounds good Carolyn..looks good too.

My children love french toast with cinnamon and castor sugar sprinkled atop.
I wonder where they get their taste from.  Cheesy

FRENCH TOAST & GINGER EMULSION
Apr 18th, 2010, 9:19am

I was given a bottle of ginger emulsion for cat minding recently.  I had never heard of this and as a ginger lover was anxious to try it out.

I had some camp oven cinnamon swirl brioche from the no knead site I cooked the other day and they french toasted the finished bread.

It was only for me so I used some milk, a little sugar, an egg and about 3 drops of the ginger emulsion.  The instructions are to use an eye dropper when measuring it out.

...

Soaking - I dont fuss much with the beating
...

Cast iron fry pan of course!!!
...

The result tasted great, I did add some real maple syrup and they blended well.  I will make damper or scones with some ginger slivers and the emulsion another time.
