Hi Folks,

I grew up in South Africa and have been cooking with camp ovens (or Potjie in Afrikaans) all my life with my family and with scouts.  I am a scout leader in Canberra, and guess what, all the Canberra Air Scouts use camp ovens for cooking! (It could have been my influence!) . Will be good to see what everyone has to say about camp cooking - I am looking forward to checking the forum regularly.

Welcome Metopo, I'm looking forward to hearing about your cooking and in particular, some of your potjie recipes and techiques.

One of my South African friends brought an old Kurtz potjie over with them when  they emigrated to Australia some 20 years ago. It is an interesting design and a brand I had never heard of before.

Did you bring any potjies with you?  Smiley

Hi Matopo... we were talking about your style of CO a few weeks ago...be great to hear about your methods of cooking in it...

Welcome to the forum and yes you can't beat cast iron cooking...I use my 2 quart pot on the stove most of the time if I cook inside...makes the best small frypan or saucepan.
