Bails

A few years ago I put an ad in  our local paper for an "Old Camp Oven" and got two replies, one from a bloke who when I visited him told me he was 85 and remembered his father cooking rabbits in this particular oven up around Brewarrina in the 20s. It was heavily covered in grease and it wasn't until I cleaned it up I found it was a very nice 14" Metters.
He was telling me that back in those days camp ovens never came with bails, you made your own out of number 8 fencing wire or had a blacksmith make one for you and this is why all old ovens have different bails, they are all after market add ons. I've bought pots with fancy wrought iron bails, wire ones, flat bar ones and twisted ones, all different.
