We were out driving today and Maggie said to me, "Did we organise another COG at Alstonville for 2017 before we left?"

Well let's have it.  Are people happy to return to Alstonville in April/May 2017???

I have just contacted the new showground caretaker.
Booking requests for the oval must be made via email this year.
Have just sent an Email, hopefully I will know if we can have the oval on the 29th and 30th within a week.
I wont be at the Cog this year, as I have another function to attend, but am happy to organize the showground bookings and what ever else I can help with.

Have the dates been finalised? There was some uncertainty earlier, the dates suggested, the last weekend in April are the same weekend as the Boggabri Camp Drovers Festival which I'd like to go to.

Rob I'm yet to hear back from the new care taker. He says he will sort it out then doesn't get back to me. I will ring again on Monday and give him a blast to wake him up a bit. At this stage I'm trying to book for the dates Derek suggested which are the 29th & 30th April.

Don't feel to sorry Jilly.
At about that time I will be relaxing deep in the mountains of Kentucky near a small town called Pikeville. The weekend event Im attending involves eating tucker from what the yanks call dutch ovens. Im told Smokers are big there and smoked beef ribs, chicken and other things will be on offer as well, not to mention plenty of moonshine.
There has also been talk of what they call Tree Rat Pie being on the menu Shocked. Apparently squirrel is referred to as tree rat in places....think I might skirt around that one if offered any. Undecided

Two things here from a resident of this continent.

1) Dutch oven.  Dutch refers to people and culture of residents of the country called the Netherlands, thus, capital D.

2)Tree rat.  Checked our google, not being that familiar with Kentucky.  Yes. squirrel.  Very common quick food for pioneers of North America.  Common  rodent in many areas today.    My fav. video  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGhZHlpSE6k   If offered same as food, yeah sure.  I used to run a rabbit snare trail.  Yes, I could prepare same to eat.  Betcha I`d try with onion and bacon, baked for sure, you know how.

Ok finally I have confirmation that the oval is ours for the 29th and 30th of April. It seems that the new caretaker wasn't up to the job and is moving on in a week or two.
Jeff ,the Vice President of the Show Society whom some of you have met , says we are booked in for those dates.
A new amenities block has been built at the north end of the oval, and if we want we can move to the area at that end of the oval which is closer to the water taps and electricity supply box.
Ill let you mob sort that that out as it wont effect me this year.

Countdown is on folks. 8 weeks to go from today.

We nearly didn't make it due to concerns by the Show Society over their liability insurance. However a chat with the Society President this week and all is good.

I have invited him to come down on Saturday for dinner.

Just a reminder of our COG Disclaimer for everyone

This COG is simply a group of like-minded people getting together to share camp oven cooking experiences.

Individuals inviting persons, who are not members of this forum and/or persons not able to read this disclaimer, to this COG must make them aware of this disclaimer.

We have over a ton of blocks cut and stacked ready to go and I will get a load of  limby stuff to mix with it in a few days time.
I have organised my business to be operating on a property just outside Alstonville for that week so I will drop in each day from Wednesday.
As for cooking, i am going to cook a sausage roll lunch and i will make everyone there a bread roll to go with the evening main and i was thinking of doing a head count for a mexican breakfast on Sunday morning.
I am hoping that Rolley might be doing something spicy thats been cooked long and slow to go on my bread rolls.
Weather wise i am confident of fine weather, though we are still experiencing frequent showers here most days at the moment.
Not long now  Grin Grin Grin

Will anybody be turning up on the Thursday?

Aart

I have a specialist appointment at 9.00 am on Thursday at Toowoomba.

Our plan is to have the van packed by Wednesday evening then up to Toowoomba Thursday morning, back home and hit the road by lunch to arrive at Alstonville mid to late afternoon on the Thursday.

So yep, we plan to be there Thursday.

I will try and get enough wood up to youse for Thursday night and I will be able to go get the rest on Friday as I will be taking the rig off one of my trucks on Friday morning. I have the pile you see below and another pile cut ready to pick up on the hill in the background of one of the pics. Might need a volunteer to help me load on Friday  Grin Grin
The weather has fined right up and we are having awesome days here now  Smiley

Might have to sneak a couple of those hollow logs into the Cruiser before they get chopped up.

Would look good in the garden.   Grin

Pulled the van down to the house last night to start getting organised.  Plugged it in to the 240 power, turned the fridge on and checked everything was ok.

Half an hour later, no power.  Checked the lead and the power point fuse and all good. Unplugged and plugged back in and power for about a minute.

Bugger this is no good.

Started to check all connections in the van.  Jayco have the CMS plug and play for everything so easy done.

Nothing wrong. Turned power back on and away it went.  Thought I would try the safety switch.  Pushed the button and nothing happened but then the power went off again.

Faulty safety switch perhaps.  With the plug and play system was able to unplug the safety switch and bypass it.   Power working as good as gold.  Problem found.

Tried to remove it and I am sure caravan manufacturers put the internal walls on after they make things.  Had to cut a hole in the internal wall to get to the connections. Will cover it with contact  Grin Grin

Off to Jayco first thing in the morning for a new one. Listed at $90.95 on the website.  Bugger but can't operate without it.

I found this little Elk growing on the fallen log I was cutting today. Thought of your garden Derek  Smiley I have left it ona decent bit of log just in case you or someone wants it. The bush here is full of them.
