I don't and see no need to actually.  I will wave if it is someone I know.

When I was running the big Facebook Group this question was asked quite a few times and for some reason bought out some of the nastiest comments I had ever seen on social media.  That confirmed to me that I would never wave just for the sake of waving.

On our recent trip to WA we noticed about 80% of caravans and camper trailers wave. But that is out on country roads. About 30% of motorhomes waved.

Mostly to other caravanners/camper trailers  and get some responses
Motorhomers never seam to return wave my thinking is they are either too snobby or too nervous to let go the wheel to wave

Just for fun when traveling in groups of two or three we all give the two handed wave  (both you and the passenger ), Smiley Smiley but you  use take turns in being the last van cause the expressions the oncoming vehicle give are hilarious  Grin

To me a wave/acknowledgement is a very subjective thing.

Most of our van towing is on country roads, not the highways, many of them being quite narrow.

It is on these that plenty of heavy transport, cattle trucks etc. operate and I invariably find that these drivers will always make sure we have room without getting the nearside wheels to far onto the shoulder and pretty much always give the "2 finger" wave which I return in response.

When being overtaken by these same trucks, I always let them know I am aware and to overtake. The usual response from the truckie is either "thanks mate" on the UHF or R/L indicator flashes. Smiley

When it comes to vans, the occupants of the largest, flashiest gin palaces stare at you as if you have no right to be on their chosen road. No waving there Shocked

The real oldies are too busy reading the map/navigator, arguing as to whether the last turn off was the one they should have made whilst trying to keep little "cuddles" of the dashboard to even notice our presence. Roll Eyes

A convoy of high speed outback adventurers in chipped up Navara's and WD40's towing 2 tonne "off road" camper trailers go past in such a blur that if a wave happened I never see it. Their presence though, is always heard by the inane UHF chatter as they head toward some destination. Roll Eyes

The real wavers though, are the ones with a well used twin cab 4x4, medium sized s/h Jayco van, kids and dog (not "rat on a string!) obviously on their maiden vanning holiday. They start waving and laughing 200 meters ahead, we smile and always respond like wise. Cheesy

Doing 8 hour round trips to Kal and back every month, I used to wave religiously. But now I've got to the point that I'll give the two raised fingers salute if my hands just happen to be on the top of the steering wheel. 80% of the vehicles out here are mining utes anyway and they usually don't care to acknowledge your existence as they fly past at 130kph+

I don't fit into any of the Poll categories.
Weather I wave or not depends on where I am ....who is coming toward me, and a few other variables.
