Has anyone on here used/is using one of these cheaper Evakool fridges - http://www.evakool.com/factory-seconds/fridges-factory-second/35-litre-rv-fridge...
It uses a Wancool compressor which is Chinese made I think, whereas their more expensive fridges use the Danfoss which used to be in the Waeco's. I am inclined to spend a bit more on the Engel MR40F which retails around the $800 mark, but figured if anyone has used and trusts the cheaper Evakool, I might take the risk.
I currently have an 80L Engel, but its much too big for smaller camping trips and is a pain to move, so am looking at my 35-50L options. I am curious about the cheaper fridge because it will only be running for a few days at a time every couple of months or so, therefore maximum reliability won't be a huge factor.

Well I tried to do the right thing by my wife. I had a jar set aside, I was going to put any spare cash I had into it plus sell a few things I don't use anymore, and in 6 months or so, buy a smaller fridge for camping. I sent her a link to the Waeco factory seconds site suggesting that it may be where I'll consider buying a camping fridge from as they have some really good deals on there. 5 minutes later I get the reply "Happy Fathers Day, you have a new fridge".
I am now awaiting the arrival of my new CF-50 http://www.getawaeco.com.au/index.php?action=view&currentpage=2&com=com_products...

Awesome. I was meant to ask if anyone had one. Pretty good deal, $499 off RRP for hopefully what will turn out to be just a couple of minor scratches.

Yep it arrived last week. Have had it running set at 0 degrees and the thermometer I put in there matched the setpoint. Only problem I have found is the latch on the lid doesn't work so presume that's the reason for it being a factory seconds. Can buy a replacement latch for less than $20 so I will have a look and if it is irreparable then I will buy a new one and replace it

It's going well. Makes for a good, lighter camping fridge compared to the steel shelled Engel. Though in terms of performance, I'd prefer the Engel anyday. It just seems to take the Waeco a long time to get down to temp in comparison. Am going to have to have a good look at that lid on it, because if it's not sealing properly, then that'll be affecting performance
