Many of you may have forgotten but the first Camp Oven Gathering (COG) we ever had organised on this forum was in June 2008 in Aarts (TBF) back yard.

So 2018 means we need to have a 10 year anniversary COG.

When??  Open to ideas but suggest anytime June to August.  Maggie and I are planning to be in Tassie for several months from February

Where??  Open to ideas but anywhere on the east coast would be preferable for us.

I am Looking at getting something made with a suitable logo marking the anniversary however would ask input on what you would like it on.  Could be a cap, polo shirt, stubby holder etc.

Over to you folks for discussion.

Maybe a cloth patch or a sticker then people can apply it to any item they wish.

Would have to be a Billmans and the price with our own lettering would be around $340 for a 12 inch model or $280 for a 9 inch model. We may get a discount from them if we could get enough interest.  I am not sure I need another camp oven Smiley

Would people pay that??

I think an anniversary COG would be great and I will put some thought into a east coast location, showers and toilets a must.

Silverton rekindled our enthusiasm for COGs not that we were tiring of them. I will travel almost anywhere but agree with previous comments a shower and toilet are important even if only to keep the bride happy.
One place I've visited several times is Mann River NP west of Grafton, no showers but newish long drop toilets, large level area but firewood could pose a problem. I don't know of anything else but will do some research.

An anniversary oven doesn't interest me, I have a set of Billmans and couldn't use another one

Rob.

Mann River Reserve has been on my gotta do list a long time. I believe there is plenty of quality water in the river.
Depending on the timing, we will be in on that COG.

Interesting area Aart, the old Cobb and Co road to Grafton goes thru a tunnel about 100 metres long carved by convicts, have pics somewhere.

Gee I'd love to do another COG before Christmas, bride agrees!

I know that area pretty well I used to go camping there with my kids. It is better further up past the tunnel right at the foot of the range is a really great camping area and always clean. The big one near the Mann river crossing has rough toilets and no shade and is not a very attractive spot. Some very interesting sights on the way in apart from the tunnel there is an old ghost town that's worth a look.

Actually I think they have become more than just camp oven cooking.  It is the fantastic friendships that have come out of them.

I am available second weekend in November onwards.
Hope that fits in. Is Mann River an option.

Aart.
Living locally we know the Mann r. reserve quite well and agree with PD would be a top location.
However, it is NP with all that means re fire restrictions from (say) late Oct. on, plus it is next door to the Wytaliba alternate lifestyle community who zealously guard their "cash crops" when any fire risk is evident.

From a positive, the Mann r. is alive with silver eels and catfish, both a real delicacy cooked or smoked. A (not legal) Eastern Cod is always a possibility too. Cool

Not against the location, just maybe a seasonal choice.

Wherever the final location is decided on, we are very keen on attending another COG later this year. Smiley

mikel, are there any other places in the New England area you could recommend? Lynches Creek Schoolhouse out of Wiangaree is a beaut spot, not very big but drop toilets, pristine creek and an old school house open to use....gee I hate giving up these secret locations its taken me years to find.
Where ever we go there will be fire restrictions from October onward I think.

Yes Rob, know what you mean.
There is a spot, Gum Flat about 28km. E of Moree, 3 km. in on the Gwyder river.
About a "1000 acres" of river reserve, heaps of firewood, a new drop loo but not exactly in the best location.
We camped there 2 days (and many times before) on our way back from the COG.
Our only company was around 25 head of the best Murray Grey beef providers one would ever see.
The river holds some good fish, no eels in Western water though, but no White Pointers either.
Like you Rob, I hate giving up those precious camp spots but on our forum group I feel its OK. Just when it leaks onto FB I get a little twitchy Shocked

Another place I've just remembered is Gulgong Show Ground near Mudgee. I've stayed there several times, $20 p/n for power, hot showers etc, walk to a very interesting town, huge rural museum, antique shop and the biggest $2 shop I've ever seen. I will find out if a fire is allowed.

Do know the spot Rory, its pretty close to the van park, not sure what the reaction may be if a number of vans turned up.

We have spent many nights camped on the river anywhere from 3-5km. upstream. Good camp spots but limited firewood, no loos and a bit space restricted for group camping.

I like Rob's idea, the town on the old $10 note. Plenty of wineries close by also....good old Mudgee Mud  Tongue

Feeling generous tonight so I'll give up another of my secret camping spots. About half way between Mudgee and Gulgong there is a TSR (Travelling Stock Route) site on the river, huge grassed area, plenty of firewood but no toilets. Someone has built up a stone weir so there is enough depth in the river for a swim. I have spent quite a few nights here, it's not well known so not many people to share it with.

Cold everywhere in June Aart except maybe Darwin.  Grin Grin

In saying that we were at Broke in June this year and it wasn’t that bad at all.

We would definitely be a look in for Broke.

We are heading to Darwin the beginning of June this year. Then across to Ayr in Queensland. We will be traveling through NSW home to SA.
So if this COG happens mid July there is a possibility Sharron and I can make it. Smiley

When I suggested Silverton for a COG in August last year some people said it would be freezing cold.
So what happened?
That's right some beautiful weather came over the boarder from South Australia and we had great weather right through the COG. Smiley Smiley

Nope. Pretty difficult at times to get a decision.

Might I suggest that considering quite a few of our regular members will be at Towitta we have a round campfire discussion on this and set some things in concrete.

Cheers

Discuss it at Towitta? That sounds like a good idea, if Silverton gets the nod we are definite starters, last year was very good.
