Today if you were online you would have seen that the forum was offline for maintenance for quite some time.

During this time I made a full backup of the server as well as the operational folders of the forum.

When I originally created the forum YaBB was the leading forum software available at the time.  My understanding is that is no longer so.

The current software I am using is well and truly out of date and should something occur on the server to damage it I am not sure I could repair it.

This leaves me in a predicament in that if I update to the current software version the forum will revert to looking like a basic blue forum as in the image below.  I estimate there is perhaps 600 hours of work I put into getting the forum to look the way it currently does and I doubt that at this stage of life I have the patience to do that again.  Even converting to the latest version of YaBB will take quite a while.

We currently have around 60 non-standard features and will lose a number of them as well although a lot of the modifications I have were incorporated into the later versions.

The good thing is that the content will be saved.

Due to the nature of this software our data cannot be converted to one of the newer software packages that a number of you are perhaps used to using such as phpBB.

I still believe we have the most comprehensive information on camp oven cooking and camp oven history on the internet so certainly want to preserve it as best I can.

So your thoughts??  Are you all happy to go back to a standardised forum.

Cheers

The blue is ok by me Derek.
But one thing you failed to mention was the cost money wise involved in the changes. So come on Derek. Spit it out and we can see if we can't get the donation tin to rattle a bit.
Thanks for all your hard work.

Over the years my computer has crashed many times and like you when it is restored it is usually a very different format however I have learned to adapt so going "blue" wouldn't be a drama.
Donation page?...sure.
Rob.

Looks like this is going to have to happen sooner rather than later.

I have had it confirmed by the current software developers that it should go well with no loss of data.

However it is only a matter of time before the people who host my server update their systems to more recently released software that will not be compatible with what we have now.

Will give plenty of notice when I do it.  Cannot do it on my iPad and Maggie is currently in the middle of a big project with her crochet charts on the laptop.

Will most likely be an all nighter for me because that is when there is less traffic on the net and I will get better speeds for uploading and downloading files.

I will try and bring in a lot of the features we currently have however I am a bit rusty on all of the code so be patient.

If there are any features that we currently have that you remember me adding please put them up on this post and I will see what I can do.

COCIA will live on regardless   Cool

Cheers

Bit of a delay on this.  Have been playing with the software and want to make some changes before we go ahead.
