Just received my new 24" camp oven .The oven itself is quite good but the lid is a shocker. It is buckled and has a 12mm gap.I spoke to Michael and he said he is aware of the problem but can't get it any better. If that is the case I would not recommend them to anyone

Rory's 24 has the same problem but my 22 is a perfect fit. All in all it is a very handy looking oven and will be getting a lot of work.

Several years ago I had an oven custom made for me by a foundry in Vic (no, not Billmans) It is the worst oven in my collection, lid doesn't fit even after some creative file work and the casting is very poor, I have never used it, an expensive mistake.

When I die I hope my missus doesn't sell my camp ovens  for what I told her I paid for them. pd

I saw Ron’s photo on Facebook and was wondering what Patche’s ovens were up to.  Good to see some final results.

That's the one Derek, a Norvil, roughest oven you ever saw.

To my way of thinking, a brand new oven with gaps in the lid as described come no where near the "fit for use" parameters of Australian consumer laws.

What is so complicated in checking that a camp oven lid does or does not fit correctly before dispatch?
After all, lids are not cast as part of the oven.

Is our society becoming so complacent, that "yeah, whatever" becomes the norm for "acceptance".....
I hopefully think not  Sad

I agree with mikels comments, a while back Cactus and I went to Billmans Foundry where we bought several ovens each. We were allowed into the store room where we picked thru dozens of new ovens and lids to get the "perfect match". Many of the ovens had been touched up with a grinder to remove dags and blemishes the marks of which I found disappeared after seasoning and a bit of use.

Must admit, getting cast iron ovens that size anywhere else is near impossible so would still be worth it if you want one.
