Last week I posted by ordinary mail two 16" ovens from Sydney to southern Queensland............don't hold your breath.... they arrived intact five days later at a cost of $35.50 each which I reckon is pretty good, give Auspost credit where it's due.

Lids inverted and wrapped with bubblewrap, legs sitting in 3" polystyrene foam then wrapped in plastic with lots of duct tape, I forgot to see exactly what they weighed.

When I die I hope my missus doesn't sell my camp ovens  for what I told her I paid for them. pd

That is good I posted two bits of plastic covers about a foot square and it cost $22.50 for next day delievery to Rocky. Good service for you as they would be a couple of kilo each.

I am with Dave, sometimes postage is weird and I don’t see how they make it work.

Maggie ordered some pure wool cardigans from the UK once and they were priced with postage included.

They didn’t fit so we went to return them and postage from Australia to the UK was going to be more than what she originally paid for the cardigans.

Our postal system is strange indeed.
Chris finds that a bulky item costs less than the same item packed in a box. The box is weighed and "cubed", the wrapped item is simply weighed. A different cost formula applies to each.
It is also much cheaper to send a 1kg.+ item to NZ than to WA. One goes by air arriving 3-4 days, the other by road 8-14 days.  Shocked

You're right mikel re cubed packages, SBB alerted me years ago to send camp ovens wrapped rather than in a box, much cheaper.

You can still box them, just make the box an odd shape, even a small point on one side is enough.
