I am carrying my Kingaroy Choofer with me and when at Junee my mate Mark pulled out a new water donkey he had made from one of the smaller beer kegs.

My Choofer is made from the 9 kg gas bottle and we found that the Donkey fitted just nicely into it.

We did a couple of boils with it.  One using timber and the other using a small chimney of Heat Beads.  The Heat Beads boiled it much quicker than the timber.

What Mark is going to do is put another outlet about two thirds of the way up so that he can use it with less water and just screw a plug into that outlet when he wants to fill it up.

I was fascinated.

It is now 😆
In its previous  life it was a fire extinguisher
I found it hard to find a good strong  funnel  so I improvised
After using it now a few times I am still getting dirty coloured water "rust looking"coming  out if it so I will be looking realy hard to find a stainless  vessel   to modify
It is only a visual  thing but when you put clean water in and get discolored  boiling water out  it is a bit disturbing  Embarrassed

You will always have a rust problem with those gas cylinders. Unless you have a way of completely drying them after use.
You could always slosh a bit of sump oil around inside them after use. Tongue
Fish oil also does a good job.  Tongue
Stainless kegs are the way to go. But don't use one the brewery still own. Big fines if you get caught.

If you want to follow your dreams, you have to say no to all the alternatives.
