Until this morning I didn’t even know there was such a thing and I don’t think they are available in Australia either or at least I cannot find any reference to them.

What alerted me was the photo Nigella Lawson put up on Facebook of her spatchcocked chicken recipe (second photo). In the description she refers to the mashed Purple Magesty potato.

Interesting that they are an old type and not new.

While somewhat different I recall many, many years ago someone giving me a bag of purple beans to eat.  Skins were purple yet the inside was green.

Imagine my surprise that as soon as the sliced bean was dropped in boiling water they turned green.

I ended up growing them, they were a vine bean, for many years in my veggie patch.

Derek most likely the Purple King bean, dad use to grow them when I was a teenager. The original carrots were purple and yellow from India and Persia I believe.

I have seen purple carrots in some organic produce places
