Many years ago around a campfire on a chilly night, I enjoyed a nice hot mug of mulled wine.

Enjoyed another a few nights ago at a local Winterfest festival.

So much, that I had a go making some last night.

Using what was in the pantry, I added a vanilla stick, 10 cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, all spices and a tbs of  equal powder (sugar substitute) to a little water. Heated and stirred then added a couple of glasses of  elcheapo red wine and let brew for a few minutes.

Didn't have a strainer, but found that a sifter did the trick  Grin

A rough and ready way to make it, but tasted as good as the mulled wine at the festival, just that mine had dregs in the bottom from using powdered spices.

Anyone else enjoy this type of brew?

I remember drinking it years and years ago but it was cold and you put it in the glass then put a hot poker in it to warm it up.

I think that in the preparation of it it was boiled and all the alcohol was cooked out as we had it as kids.

It was a Christmas drink.

Paper filter is a good idea but I bought a small coffee plunger today that should do the trick.

Derek and others, do yourselves a favour and give this a go. Drink hot and get the aroma kick that goes with it.

I think I did try this at a camp gathering once, but it didn't taste right.

Last nights blend was pretty good. Looking forward to another tonight with a slice of orange in it.

Plenty of recipes on the web. This is a good slow cooker one that would do well around the campfire.

WARNING!!!  WARNING!!!

Can get highly addictive  Cheesy

Polished of the equivalent of a bottle of red quick smart.

Coffee plunger works perfectly. Place spices in plunger, add hot water, then pour into a saucepan of hot red wine.
