I have not finished the  top yet, started with hot water and detergent and a wire brush (3 times) then sanded with 180g paper, I will use salt and lemon juice, (You Tube) Wash off and dry, then apply food grade mineral oil. The top is doubled sided. I gave the frame a light sand  back (180g) and finished with a light walnut furniture restorer. Repainted the corner brackets.  Not bad for $120.00

Muzz if you have trouble finding the food grade mineral oil it is avalible at Ikea for about $8 for 500 ml.
