Title: Toilet Upgrade - Inskip Point
Post by Derek Bullock on Feb 26th, 2006 at 4:52am
Facility upgrade - Inskip toilets

24 February 2006

Affected parks:
Cooloola Northern, Great Sandy National Park
Cooloola Southern, Great Sandy National Park
Inskip Peninsula Recreation Area

Please be advised, that the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service is upgrading all toilet facilities at all the campgrounds at Inskip Peninsula Recreation Area.

Visitors are advised that while these works are in progress:

- Heavy machinery will be in operation.

- Please stay safe and stay away from all machinery, closed or cordoned-off areas.

- For visitor safety, SS Dorrigo campground must be temporarily closed.

- All other campgrounds remain open and portable toilets will be provided.

This upgrade will improve waste removal and upgrade the system to cope better with peak usage times.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Agree Wazza

I was up there about 2 years ago and the place was packed
The line up was not good either with a pain in the belly and no where to go

it is surprising how far you will drive to find another toilet

I really think they need to put fire pits or fire rings at Inskip.  Everybody builds a fire at a different spot and the place is just full of ash and chunks of burnt wood.

I recently went to Kennilworth and they had really good facilities.

welcome to the site miss mermaide i happen to agree with you there are not enough facilitys at inskip also they need to try and stop so many people going there at the same time its becoming dangerous with so many people driving around.
its like driving in the city
cheers cb

just a little something my neighbour told me as he has a house a rainbow beach the council is going to be putting in bollards to limit the amount of camp sites as for the upgrades i was at double island on the w/end & they have allready started to up grade the fresh water track beleive me they need to.

Been campin for a long time and i think they need to update all parks and beaches regardless of where they are, and the finances well they can come from all the GST that the states get to spend on stuff rather than goin on trips oversees they should spend some time campin in some of the parks so they can see what they need then we should see some money come our way as far as campin facilities go, in the way of better service  ETC !

Hi All
We stayed at Inskip last year and had the enviro loo from hell. Apparently something wasn't working right and boy did we know it. The only shower we could get by the way was to visit the surf beach at Rainbow and have a cold one there. Something needs to be upgraded alright. How about a shower block at inskip as well. If they can supply enviro dunnies from hell surely a cold shower wouldn't be too much to ask for. Upgrades are needed from Double island to Inskip as far as I am concerned.
We stayed at Double island beginning of FEB. We took a drive along beach and stopped at some of the campsites. I must say it was disgusting. You had to just about watch every step you took.
Upgrades to Toilet amenities is overdue and portable toilets should of been made compulsory for all campsites years ago.

Its a great place and what a shame the environment has to me been damaged in this way.

We now stay at the Wilderness lodge where there are hot and cold showers, clean toilets and clean maintained camping areas.

ronnie h u will find that only the toilits at fresh water are being up graded, but if you want a hot shower go up the track a little bit more to the camp grounds & you will be quite supprised at how clean the facilityies are, the only thing is its a bit of a walk to the beach & theres plent of mossies too.hopfully the council will put in a dump spot at the new toilits to + more large bins along the beach before the national parks service closes another camping spot. :(

Thanks for the info.
Why are they only upgrading one place when it all needs to be revaluated and better facilities provided.???????

We just prefer to stay Wilderness park at D.I rather than travel to inskip. We  take a drive along the beach to fish etc. We usually go mid week when we have holidays as we are usually assured a spot with no one next to us. WE probably pay a little bit more to stay there but we have the comforts of home i suppose.

Hmmmm, guess I won't be in a hurry to visit you guys over there going by the sounds of things here.

We also have similar problems here in W.A. regarding overcrowding at camp sites, it's gotten so bad that the authorities are considering implementing a reservation system where you need to book your site in advance and there would be a restriction on numbers allowed into the area. It's suggested such a system would resolve the holiday/L ong weekend crwod problem.

However, from where I sit, it won't do any such thing, as in my humble opinion the problem lies not in the crowds squeezing into camps sites, but rather in the authorities closing and reducing the number of available sites for us to use. I'm personaly aquainted with at least SIX such sites being cloesd to us here in the West over the last 5 years, all the user of those sites are now being directed to the ONE site.
How's that for intelligence from our Parks people ?

Another issue that should also be addressed, is the filthy, lacksadasical attitude of some campers themselves, who it must be said, are their own worst enemy.
Some of these people will leave their waste lying about wherever they please, isn't it wonderful to visit a camp site and see the white toilet paper lying about like confettee ?
In one case I was horrified to find a group of campers camping on a beach head near a river, they had dug a waste pit into the sand and were leaving their wastes there.
When I mentioned something about it, I was told it was hygenic and would be washed away at the next high water flow.
Course no one considered where it would be washed away to, the poor buggers downstream, who were probably relying on said water for drinking purposes.  >:(

However, it also must be said, Authorities have let the camping fraternity down bigtime by allowing facilities to become run down and in some cases, downright dangerous due to erosion.
This is something I've witnessed ever since the Federal Govt relequished their handling of National Parks management in their efforts to cut operating costs.
Yet, it is claimed the recreational industry is booming, hmmmm, wonder what we'll all do with our recreational stuff, if we've got nowhere to go with it ? >:(

G'day itchyvet ;D
welcome to our world, I hope you enjoy yourself here.
I read your post and was thinking maybe the Gov't could have a buy back system for camping gear-like the gun buyback :)

All the best

They have done a lot of upgrading at Inskip since that post.  It still gets very crowded though at holiday times.

It has been some years since I camped at Inskip but I did go for a day trip up the beach and to Inskip in June last year.

I was really surprised to see how much land the sea had reclaimed.
