Title: Rabbit Stew or Curry
Post by Furphyslinger on Sep 2nd, 2006 at 5:02pm
One for the Rabbit lovers

1 Rabbit cut into quarters (Can be replaced with any meat chicken etc)
4 medium spuds cut into rough pieces
2 large carrots cut up into 10mm rings
2 large onions
1 stick celery
hand full dried soup mix
4 cups hot water
salt and pepper to taste

Brown Rabbit in hot camp oven and then slowley add water when water is added begin to add rest of the ingredients and move camp oven onto a bed of coals allowing to cook slowly for 1 to 1 1/2 hours
If making this into a curry just mix the required amount of curry powder (the amount will depend on individual taste I usually use a level soup spoon of powder but dont be afraid to try more or less )into a cup of cold water and add while stirring slowly to spread through the mixture Great on cold nights and on toast for breakfast

Cheers Furphy

Sorry about this, but I'm on a low salt diet, so must say, be wary of 'soup mixes', bullion cubes, etc.  They're loaded with salt.

Hmm,  that sort of sounds like me heading for the freezer and picking out assorted 10 servings of diverse veggies to add to the roast in the crockpot/slow cooker.  This is something one can set up in the morning and have a nice several days feed waiting for you after work.

FS, I'm just being curious.

I've run a rabbit snare line in the era when a 'territory' for such sort of went with the land I had.  It was rather handy.  & of course, country meat has more taste!!!

lk camper bear here as i come from the bush rabbits were a great source of food when i was growing up  my mother used to make a braised rabbit and it tasted great 'maybe someone will have a recipe for it as i have lost mine  but getting back to the case at hand to catch rabbits as i did as a kid we used lots of ways traps; snairs; spotlighting or just shooting them as i remember trapping  was the most common; now days you can pay up to $10.00 a kg over here so at that price we dont eat as many as we use to hope this has helped you cheers cb

Well, I can't find the rabbit hounds that I want.  They are bread in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Quebec.  While closely related to the beage, they're not beagles.  I used to have one, but I'd have to have a scanner to digitize a picture of her.  Anyway, the picture(s) on this site will have to do.

Well, I clicked on the link here to double check it and hey, a different picture.  So, hit the refresh button for a few apt pics.
