Title: Aussie Furphy V American Lodge - Photos Post by Derek Bullock on Sep 9th, 2006 at 1:25pm
Well, finally managed to get some photos. I am completely happy with the Lodge just received from the USA. The shape is fantastic and the finish better than what I imagined. It is different to the Furphy in many ways, the most interesting is the length of the legs.
Still has to be seasoned so the pics here are in it's raw state. For those interested I bought it on eBay and it cost me $130.00 delivered from California. Cheers Derek DSC01068_Small.JPG (59 KB | ) |

Notice the longer legs on the Lodge. I am interested in that as primarily people in the USA use heat beads for their cooking.

All I need now is a 12" Furphy to sit alongside it. ::) ::) ::) ::)
Or maybe a 15" Lodge to sit beside my 15" Furphy. ;D ;D ;D ;D I better go look at eBay. ;) Derek |

Looks good Derek, I'm looking more and more at American eBay as there are very few (read none) ovens for sale here. Even with the exchange rate and high postage costs some of those old ovens from the USA are looking quite reasonably priced compared to the last few sold on Oz eBay.

G'day Derek, I've just measured the legs on my ovens and they vary between 40mm and 65mm, several are around the 57mm (2 1/4") mark. It probably does'nt matter as they tend to "sit down" on the coals anyway.
With bidding I'll definitely let you know if I'm going for it the next time a suitable oven comes up. Like you I'd really like a 12" Furphy, gee they're scarce..... Rob. |

Rob
Just on 12 months ago I found one in a second hand place near Young and it had $125 on it. Hummed and hahhed for a while and thought nah I'll find one cheaper. Now kicking myself for it. Derek |

Tis always the case Derek. Have seen so many good CO's at garage sales going cheap, said to myself I have enough just from the old family home but now seeing the eBay prices think ---- jeeeez what have I left behind!!
From now on will be taking more heed on what is on offer and not (hopefully) leaving too much. Going on a trip in a couple of weeks, will report the results (if any) Your new Lodge looks to be a bit of good gear. mikel |

An old saying but a true one, " Camp ovens are like peanuts, one is never enough." I can't stop.

Derek, as one who is used to flat top lids, I'd appreciate it if you would take a photo looking at it from the side, that is with your camera at a level with the oven, not above it. I understand the Furphys have rounded lids.
Oh, and I ah, bid as far west as Arizona. So, count me in on that not bidding against y'all too. :) |
