Title: Back from the Great Outback
Post by mikel on Oct 20th, 2006 at 10:45am
Returned home to find plenty of fresh topics and new members making interesting contributions.

The socialising part of our trip was good, but the bloke who reckoned a couple of weeks work would be ok should go get his head read. Bloody 40+ degrees every day, dust and flies thrown in for free.
The country folk who make their living from what is produced on the ground (as opposed to those who try by digging in it) are doing it very very tough. There's more stock on the long paddock than behind the fences. Not good.

Any way, enogh whinging. We did enjoy a few good feeds like this: ;D

cheers  mikel

G'day LK.
Yeah, that Furph., he knows all about these little critters. "CHAERAX DESTRUCTOR" or the common aussie freshwater yabbie.
One of our great inland delicacies. Emerges from its mud burrows in creeks when the weather warms up and easily caught in a mesh trap baited with an old chop bone or similar. Cooked by boiling in salted water till they turn pink (dark blue/black in the live stage).
Just remember when you eventually visit here and undoubtedly sample some, wait until they are cool before eating. (unless your system is overdue for a good cleanout!)
cheers mikel

Love lobster.  Well, look where I live.  You're making me hungry.

Yabbies eh, well, yes please.  Claws, tails and bodies.  Is there much in the bodies for eating.  How much weight per?
