What alternatives are around other then tin veg.  I dont like them they are a soft for my liking.  Anybody discovered anything else that is good when you are not near a shop.

Some trips go for 2 weeks and all the fresh stuff is gone.  Anyway you need to keep the beer and meat in the esky anyway.

Any ideas.

See if you can pick up an old meatsafe from a s/h shop. We use one, often 3 weeks between shops and keep all our veges in it. Hung in the shade with a little breeze going past we find no problem with stuff going off. Meat however is kept frozen, packed in meal portions after visiting the butcher then into the Trailblaza.
Now if you were an ex shearer, warm beer would be no problem to you! ;)

Dried Vegies are available in sealed foil packs and also dried mash spuds and it is worthwhile going to scout shops for heaps of vegie variations as well as dried meats etc
heaps ao stuff around if you are willing to look in the right place and also try scout site online could be worht a try

Have you considered getting a food dehydrator. I've had one for years and find it great for a wide range of applications.

To store vegies for travelling, blanch or steam them, then dehydrate them. Ideally when they're dry, pack them in vacuum sealed, meal sized portions. Rehydrating them in camp is as simple as, ....well...., adding water.

Look online and in places like Ebay to find a dehydrayor and a vacuum sealer, both are good investments.

What do you mean by scout shops?

What sort of stuff do they have can you tell me how to get in contact with them?
