Derek, If you lived in that part of the world I don't think you would find that $200 U.S. rare. Although granted you may remember that Fogcrawler took a long time to find one. But not $200 rare.
JMHO :) |

Whoa back there, whoa I say... let sanity in, I've got a pretty bad case of castironitis but even I can't justify spending that sort of $$$$ on a oven only good for show; but then don't let me put you off Derek.

Derek,
I can see you taking extra days before and after, and hitting the yard sales. I can't say as I remember picking up on many IDOS members being near there, though. But then again, they could be competition. Maybe, you'd better keep mum and pick up your local knowledge from others. Anyway, you won't need heavy luggage going. 8-) |

Derek, I have one of those. Paid about US$10. When I saw it up to $200 I thought at first it was a typo. Then when I saw the history I knew what the deal is. Little Koppit. The days are so long and dark up there she has nuthin' better to do than doctor up a fake ebay link. Mate, noway is that genuine. It's a prank. Its a $10 - $15 item fer Krissakes !
If you are that desperate, I would pick one up for you and freight it to you. Notwithsatanding the cost of that, you still would be quids in. Let me know and DON'T bid on that damned thing. Or, I could sit on one until you get here, and drive down to deliver it to you. Meet half the cost of petrol and you are on. Which part of Tex-arse is your conference in ? JtB |

Derek - I blundered. Sorry about that. My eyes ain't that good, and I've just realized that mine is NOT the Lodge, but the Campchef. Sooooooo it is possible the Lodge will fetch big bucks on account of scarcity. I still think it's bloody ridiculous nonetheless.
And to LK, an apology for suspecting for one minute you were perpetrating a fraud on our beloved Leader and Guru, Derek. I guess I judge people by my own standards - it's the kinda prank I would pull if I had the technical knowhow - lol JohntheShamefacedBastard |

Poddy - these small ovens are quite functional. I use mine sometimes (Campchef, not Lodge) for sauces, or heating butter etc. And I guess, despite they only hold a cup, ya could Furpey's brains in there 3 times over . . . . . . .lol (Just kiddin', Furph) |

JtB if you have any ovens esp. a 5" Lodge laying around that might benefit from a lovely holiday in the sun yer can send 'em to me. I live very close to the beach and will give 'em the three "S's", sun, surf and er sand.
Seriously though I watch US eBay and have'nt seen a decent camp oven (as opposed to dutch oven) for months. When a good one comes up they either won't ship outside the US or just don't answer my emails, iggerant lot ! Then to top it off they reckon American cast iron is the best ever produced... mob of big heads.. Thats my say for today fellow cast iron lovers, pd |

Poddy - I don't have a 5" Lodge - I have the Campchef, which are ubiquitous. So much so they come with Xmas wax scented candles in them . . . . . grrrrrrrrrr. In fact I didn't even know there WAS a Lodge model. They don't make it these days and probably have not for some years. Certainly, Lodge here are superior to anything else I have seen, but from photos I've seen of some of the OZ gear, it looks pretty good too.
Perhaps if something on ebay takes your fancy, you can park it up with me and Derek can pick it up from me in April - I'm only a 3 hour drive north of the Texas border. (Mate, 'course ya can trust me. Wot were ya thinkin' there for a minute ? Oh ye of little faith . . . . . . .) JohntheBaptist |

Get out the sodium, oh ye of a practical turn of mind. If you're going to make that promise, ye'll need to deliver in person, just to visit PD's neighbors.
Besides, Derek's gonna have ta pay extree to the bird flying him home. Ye just know he's too interested in 'stuff from away'. All those 'Merican ads have gotten to him. How come you got the 5" CampChef with the candle? There is the just-the-oven option, especially via e-bay. & did you ever check out Amazon. I hear tell that they have good prices, if you keep checking. 8-) |

Ahem, Ma'am . . . . .
Nowhere did I say I had the candle version . . . . .lol. I merely reported having seen them. I have the fully functional version. And it's time you were in bed . . . .lol |

A quaint British custom - St. John pronounced "Sinjin" And wot's the deal on the Scottish Brogue ? Curiously, my name is John Cleal. Scottish. And a bastardisation of "Clay Hill". I have you picked for a Lowlander. And I don't give a fat rat's rectum wot time it is - I sleep when I need to and annoy other people when I'm awake . . . . . . lol

I know I can trust you John but can I trust Derek to deliver ? He might have second thoughts on the long trip home !! Even with the exchange rate improving (US$0.79) it is an expensive exercise to buy and mail to Oz something as heavy as a CI oven.
I look and lust at some of the Griswold spiders etc that appear on eBay. Although I only collect camp ovens,( three legs and a flanged lid hopefully with a name on it) I sometimes get distracted and buy dutch ovens and other C.I. Castironitis is a terrible affliction. During the year I bought an old Griswold #7 waffle iron for $28 at Leeton in NSW. I wish it could tell me how it came to be there, the dealer bought it at a property clearance sale down that way. I'll have to buy another one as I can't keep up with the grand-kids who eat 'em faster than I can cook'em. Enough dribbling. pd |
