MY GOD PEOPLE ARE RIDICULOUS WITH THE PRICES THEY PAY FOR OVENS ON EBAY. DEFINATELY A NEW BENCHMARK WAS SET TODAY WITH AN 8 INCH OVEN GOING FOR $365, YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING!

Interesting though ............... it wasn't a Furphy.  Have you any knowledge of the Kangaroo Stove Camp Ovens.

Are you sure it Is'nt?
The base definately has the hallmarks of a Furphy 8 inch camp oven or beanpot as does the handle. I'm wondering if  Furphy did some work for another company and just restamped the base. The lid on the otherhand is odd, why would anyone go to that much trouble to mark Furphy or attempt to mark Furphy on the lid.
I have a 12 inch Furphy which has a very similar appearance to the Kookaburra 8 inch lid I've place a couple of photo's for you to have a look.

Interesting.  I have never seen that shape lid before.

Will be interested in what that 15" Furphy on eBay goes for.  I paid $204 for mine in perfect condition.

boy im gunna dig out all mine i have about 20 of them im a truck driver and i deliver farm machinary all over the country always finding camp ovens on the farms most i pick up for $20.00  or a carton of 4xxxx i find the farmers have nuts and bolts even found them in chook sheds as feed dishes that might give me the insentive to go get em out of my shed clean them and put on ebay

Hey Ferret, would love to know what you've got, I've got a lot of lids & bases as well as a lot of complete ovens we could maybe do a little trading and match up the odd one here and there to help each other out. The sad thing for me is these cast iron curio's are made to be enjoyed and to be used and not just put aside to become some dust collecting display piece's. I'm sure that there are people out there who bid on these ovens and don't have any intention of using them for what they were made for, personally thats what i love about them, theres nothing better than being out bush and enjoying a feed cooked in a camp oven. As for the prices they have been fetching on ebay people get caught up in the moment bidding and i don't beleive it's a relative indication of what they're worth. I've seen alot of fad's come and go on ebay, and prices for item's can fluctuate dramatically over time and people think beacuse one item goes for a certain amount of money that the next one will bring the same, thats definitely not always the case. Anyway thats my bit for the night, until the next chapter.

I'd have to agree with you totally there astro , some of the prices bid on items I've chased myself (tools new & old , fishing tackle etc) have been pure madness , the person would have been better off buying the goods in a shop , people get caught up in the moment. Not my idea of a wise purchase.  ;)
