Title: Bedourie oven Post by disdatanddeudder on Mar 18th, 2007 at 6:20pm
Hi to all,
Having just purchased our Bedourie oven,we were quite anxious to give it a real tryout with a roast first up.Having washed and seasoned the oven,we found and old frypan base (Dereks idea) to place the cooker in.In went a medium chicken, cut up spuds, pumpkin and carrot and out came a fabulous roast meal.Is this begginers luck? Method, brush chicken and veg with olive oil all over, put trivot in bottom of oven, then place all in.Put 15 heat beads on top 9 on bottom, cook for 2 -1/2 hours. The oven is a 10".Next big cookup is a leg of lamb with veg,has anyone else done a small leg of lamb in the oven using heat-beads,if so how many beads on top and bottom, and how long for cooking.cheers :) :) |

Hi
I have never used a ten inch Bedourie so unable to answer you. I would buy an oven thermometer, pop it in the oven and experiment. 180 degrees is a good temp for roasting. I have done heaps of roasts in my large Bedourie and they always turn out well. I keep popping this photo up but they are only around five bucks and worth their weight in gold. Good idea about the thermometer Derek, will look at getting one
I cooked a 1.5kg leg of lamb in my 10" bedourie using the same amount of heat beads as i used for roasting a chicken 15top-9 bot Preparation was the same, season the leg by brushing over with olive oil, done the spuds and pumpkin the same. The lamb ect was cooked to perfection in 2hrs-20mins.When i carved up the meat, it just fell off the bone.I'm driving the neibours mad with all the tantalizing smells coming out of my backyard. One has given me the nick-name of camp oven clarry. There he goes down the back with his oven under his arm......trouble is,when it starts cooking, they all hang over the fence like a pack of starving vultures.....cheers ;D |

I am also looking at a nice large cast iron oven too.Funny how we can get very carried away with this camp oven cooking caper as we sit at the table "scoffing" the delights that come out of them :) |
