Porcupines
2 2/3 cup Minute Rice
Water
5 ts Salt
2 kg minced beef
1 Onion, chopped
Pepper to taste
4 cans Tomato sauce (8 oz cans)


Combine all ingredients except tomato sauce and water. Shape into 48 small balls. Place in Camp oven. Cover with tomato sauce and 2 cups water. Cover tightly and simmer 30 minutes or until done. Remove from heat, let stand 5 minutes before serving. Serves 16.

G'day LK.
Down here in ozz we have what is known as the "barrier fence" It is a high, vermin proof fence starting near the coast at Ceduna, SA then traversing over 5000km. to finish near the east coast in Qld.
It was built to keep the dingo population as much on the W/N side as possible and is very well mainted its full length. Severe penalties can be imposed for anyone damaging the fence or leaving gates open.
However, the biggest problem in maintaining "border security" is that little spiky creature, the echidna. Being an anteater, they have incredible digging ability and enormous lifting strength. So when one arrives at the barrier fence it will simply dig down to the extent of the buried netting, stick his snout under, flex the old biceps or whatever and there is a nice hole for a dog to slip through.
So sadly, when a fence patrol comes across one of these delightful creatures he is suddenly no more.
Very sad. :(
But is said they are very good eating???  :-/
There has been some very interesting books written about this fence and the people who maintain it. Permission is required to travel along it.
