Title: Members whats on for the long week end?
Post by murray on Sep 27th, 2007 at 5:18pm
Hi All

So whats on for the long weekend, going camping, fishing or just catching up on  jobs around the house.
I am going to pick up my mother( 93 years old, born and bred in the bush) she is going to stay with us for about ten or twelve days very independent  lady.

NSW only long weekend.  Then again they are all long weekends for me.  ;D

I may head for the coast after the school holidays.  Our school holidays are a week later than yours to Henry.

Yep! fish'n if the warm weather keeps up,
Ride'n (dirt bikes) if it gets cold,
Either way there will be a good C/O feed in it, a few mates, thier boys & my 16Yro son.(I might have to leave the 2Yro & mum at home, shame that) ::)
Being spring the Aus, Bass are heading up stream & on the chew.
Taken an xtra day off to do some more work on my bar.

Hi, BBC
Where do you fish for the bass in the Williams river or at Glenbawn dam?
I live at Swansea so not to far away.  Have a good and safe week end

Im at Branxton, so Glendon Brook at this time of year & moving up towards Gresford & Lostock as summer gets into full swing.
I do most of my fishing in the Paterson river at night a couple of K's below the dam.
check the pics, I created a couple of these little critters especially for the job.
they are powered by chainsaw motors & work on a jet so the prop cant get smashed up on the rocks & logs.

The exhaust is made to a formula for tuned length, the same as the expansion chamber pipes on motorcross bikes.
so the little 60cc engine can put out up to 10 or 12Hp, it really gets e'm going up on the plane.
No brakes though & being a jet you dont have steering unless your on the gas!!! can get a bit dicy in the tight creeks.
But once you have e'm up on the plane they will run in ankle deep water, about 4".

just enough room for me, my fishing gear & a six pack esky,
The esky comes in handy for when you are parked & want to sit a bit higher to cast,..... an intergrated part of the design??? you be the judge!

Thanks Muzz,
Taken about 2 years from concept to this stage but still got a long way to go,
Ive done the frame out of Iron bark & the Bar I slabbed out of Stringy bark, the plan is to finish panneling the whole back wall & 1/2 the side wall at the bar with the dressed & lacquered fence pailings then fit some of those clear plastic roll down screens like you see on the veranda bistros & such so I can use it a bit more in winter & keep the dust out (the barbie does a much better job than the stove)

It's a great little spot for a camp oven in the cool weather though.
& open it all up in summer & Ive got the bar right beside the pool.

By the way, got a nice fish this arvo 42cm on the first cast. I gave the fish'n away there & then, I figured it was all down hill from there. Whent back to get the fire going for the stuffed rabbit rapped in bacon!!!!

Hi, Mick,
It will be top set up for sure when you get it finished. Good  fish, do they get any bigger than that. And what are the eating qualities like?

Muzz.
Eating Qual, is spot on, especially that one, stuffed with herbs & veg, rapped in butterred foil & done over the char grill with a hood. (I might be predjudice but beats those salties to death!!) ;D ;D

OH,'n thats my ugly twin by the way. ;D

yeah they do get bigger, that one was about 3 - 3 1/2Lb @ 42cm
Which is on the 75% mark for the creeks & rivers but perfect eating size.
They get them up to 60cm & 5Lb + in the dams but they are hard to find (luck) & a bit lazy in the fight being as they live in calm open water.

These "wild" fish at this time of year are migrating from Morpeth where they spawn in winter, to the "high ground" where they will spend the next 8-9 months before doing it again.

While they are heading up, they are hungry & cranky, anything that "bounces" in front of them they smash it, take no prisioners.

Trust me, on light spinning or fly gear you dont want e'm much bigger in the tight log & snag infested creeks, I fish with 9Lb line & get freight trained some times.

A few of the "COD" boys will no doubt give me a ribbing here??????? ::) ::)
