Post by Derek Bullock on Nov 3rd, 2007 at 9:45pm
Another new feature.

Happy with what a member has done for you, then click on the reputation button that looks like and reward them.

Not happy with a members response then click on the reputation button thast looks like to deduct a point from them.

You can also view a mermbers reputation points and who awarded them.  See the pic below.

Please play fair.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

G'day Derek.
One thing about this forum is that it is (or was) a place to offer, accept, and exchange ideas on camp oven cooking and many other things to do with outdoor/outback activities.

Not so long ago the forum became very short of contributions. Why? well you know the reason for that. A few of those contributors are now slowly, with their reservations, coming back.

So here we are now confronted by your newest great idea. Assess the contribution, give points, deduct points...etc.etc. :-?

Well sorry Derek, I dont agree. If I make a comment it should be taken as that. If the recipient needs to make a reply, I am sure they always will. :)

If from now on I will be awarded points for good or bad contributions its best if I go straight to the naughty corner and stay there. :(

This feature was part of a software update.  If people think it not good then I can uninstall it.

Sorry newme and jason b but I just dont get get your "point"
I made what I thought was a reasoned comment. It was also addressed to Derek, the owner of this forum.
I could have made this as a PM to him but I chose to make MY opinion public.
The fact that you both jumped in, boots/n/all with your very ad hoc responses indicates to me that you have read very little of the posts from the early days of this forum.
Derek has attempted all along to make this a forum where feedback is recognised. This was not an attempt to influence this. I have made several posts which might be considered as "politically incorrect" but I would much prefer to be "bollocked" (see... there I go again) by a response than given a black mark in the margin.
Would like to read other comments on this (with respect to Derek).
cheers mikel

Wholeheartedly agree with you Mikel.  There is to much camping and to much cooking and eating to do rather than argue over a few points.

Derek

PS - And drinking port  ;)

Mikel

This was my Christmas present to myself last year.  Holds 5 litres.  I refuse to divulge how many times it gets refilled.  It's made of white oak.  ;)

Derek.
Now you are making me cry.
Until recently, very good friends of ours had the Royal Hotel at Eromanga ( furthest town from the sea in AU) and they also had a very simlar cask.
Try as we might, we could never empty it in one night!!!
But over 2 nights we gave it a bit of a nudge! ::)
mikel  (with nothing left but an empty glass!)  :(

When I first got it they told me to allow the port to mature and take on the oak flavors before drinking it.

I learned very quickly that good port matures overnight  ::) ::) ::) ::)

Mikel made his point and you responded positively "Thank You" I will not labour the point I just want to say that I find your site an interesting and informative location for the opinion and ideas of people with the same interests that I have.
I know that you are working to make the site new and fresh and I find myself getting into it more and more some of the new things will not be as popular as others and I feel that the one commented on was one of those (I guess we all struggle with anyone making judgements on us and this type of thing can turn nasty with payback etc.

I intend to both draw the good things from this site and add whenever I can and I look forward to a long association with all of those on this site

Once again thank you for listening to your members and a " Well Desrved "Well Done")

I am one of those contributors who after doing the rounds of other like sites are now slowly, with their reservations, coming back.

Not so long ago my most regular PM poster was Derek usually starting with words such as " I must ask you once again to refrain  from posting comments  such as BLA BLA"
I can handle the Big D giving me a serve for  ( in his opinion) overstepping the mark, a mark that was a Grey area anyway, but i agree with  mikel.

I really  do not need everyone else telling me I have been a BAD BOY again.

Maybe we were sometimes a bit astray at times,  but there was nothing obscene or hurtful posted, just good fun  between Aussie mates besides it was all JTB's fault.

Hopefully we can bring this site back to the Galah thread days and all enjoy some great posts and stories of the old days.
Copy Derek let us have a bit of fun along with the serious stuff and this site will go ahead in leaps and bounds.
Regards Kev

Jason, You do not have the background and one needs background in this case. Some can be found by reading old posts, but not all.

I can't say that I have been everywhere, but I certainly have seen that not all on forums are good humoured in participating or moderating a forum.  That feature has room for problems.  It is best left out of the picture as Derek has now done.

what do you mean by background ?is it because i havent posted enough ?so ive got less than 30 posts ,does that mean that what i say is not worth saying or just overlooked ?so any one that has less then 100 posts hasnt been here long enough ,i thought every ones opinion mattered but apparently not ,,,,,,,sorry derek and you other  guys ,,,,,,,,,,i am not here to cause trouble ,,,,it was only a joke if you look at my post ,,,if ive hit a nerve i apolagise ,,,,

Jason, one hates to rake up old coals, but there are some. That's what I mean by background.    You weren't here at the time, that's all.  We're trying to chalk it up to experience and go forward, but recognize that said feature could be borrowing trouble home.

This is why we asked that it be removed.

:)

The posts that you see here are not and I repeat not aimed at you or anyone else your imput into this forum is as important as everyone elses and Mikel is not attacking you he is giving his opinion of a situation that is important to us all

you are a valued contributor and you are respected for this and if anyone can muck about its Mikel you can have a lot of fun here and remember that we are not out to hurt or spray people but we do say what we think so dont take things personal unless it is made quite plain that someone has a gripe
I enjoy things here and just want to gas bag about camp ovens and camping etc and I see no value as others dont in deciding that other people only rate a 1 or 2 etc for what they have to offer and wgen someone steps up to give of thier knowledge I want to respect not only what they say but the strength of character it takes for someone to get on here and make a comment I am concerned that if we give ratings to others "not as confident as we are"  they will back off and we will lose what could be a very valuable members advice

once again you are important and any comment unless pointed directly at you should be seen as general only

Cheers Furphy

Hi All,

Have not been around for a few days, life is busy and I can not wait until the 3rd December to go on holidays, boy I need one.

My comment to Mikel were said tongue in cheek comment, no harm ment

I do know from experience that boards with the feature to rate an individual performance or rate their posts just don't work, all it does is upset people, some narrow minded individuals seem to get a kick out of taking points for worthy contributors and this then leads onto upsets people, people start leaving the forum, forum closing down etc.

Cheers
Kate

PS: Mike I hope you have accepted my sincere apology.
