Did you notice the subtle hint from the missus on the front of the fridge. ::) ::) ::) :o :o
if any one wants one of those charts on the fridge (beef, lamb & pork cuts) I have them in PDF format, send me a PM with your Email adress in it & I'll send you the files, those ones Ive printed in A3 (pork) & A2 (beef & lamb) then got them laminated, they are waiting for the completion of thier new home beside the BBq. I work in as an Engineer in a drafting office so printing up to AO size is no dramma, but most office supplies or drafting offices will print them what ever size you want. Mick. |

Title: Re: Sheds and Workshops Post by BILLYBUSHCOOK on Nov 16th, 2007 at 8:19am
Thanks Muzz,
Still got a long way to go though, the front & sides of the bar need to be filled with half round slabs standing virtically, the lower right rear wall panel to fill, to strip, plane & laquer those old pailings is murder, there is 30 of them in each panel. I'm in the process of converting a set of twin s/s laundry tubs into a range hood over the Barby. Then set up those clear plastic roll down shutters for winter. there is a temporary line in the right corner of shot Muzz, but the plan is, now the structure is sound again (it was soft wood & rotting before) is to put a retractable line from the house (left of shot) down onto the "hut". You probably can't read the head board above the bar, it says THE O'L STRINGY BARK BAR being as I slabbed it out of an o'l stringy bark tree. Im thinking of hanging a smaller sign under it & GRILL All tapped out I'm afraid Derek! Mick. |

Sorry Mick, I didn't laugh - MUCH!!! By geez that's a bit of a treasure trove isn't it! I'bet you know where everything is though. You must be one busy Hombre.
You know, I reckon there's nothing like having the PRIVILEGE of a wander through another blokes shed - there's just something about it that I find fascinating - a glimpse of the soul? There's a good shed book out too, if anyones seen it. matter of fact, I think there's a second edition too. Hey GDD (Henry - I think) send one in of your kitchen. We should have a booby prize for the biggest disaster! RM said you can tell a lot about a bloke by the way he rolls his swag & I think that applies to sheds too, or tool boxes, or kitchens, or camps. No offence intended, I find it's accurate & am writing this with my own shed in mind! Good onya fella's for putting yourselves out there - a shed's hallowed ground to most men! Hooroo |

I haven't had a crack at the head beads yet. Hooroo |

I love watching mine & my mates kids, mucking around in the zooks, & riding bikes, playin in the dam, knocking over a few cans, (& the odd miner bird) . My mates missus brought some of those cowboy shots up one time, i've had them before, but these came in small shot glass's that shine coloured lights out when there empty, we ended up sittin in the dark shed shattered, watching the light show on the corrigated iron roof. Title: Re: Sheds and Workshops Post by Trev aus on Dec 13th, 2007 at 6:54pm This is the latest extension, it's an 8x3 room built out of old hardwood pallets. Getting close, i got the insulation for free as the blue on the other side runs when it gets wet. I got the new room to lock-up a few weeks back, my mate does carports, patio awnings he got me all the cover sheets, i picked up some old solid doors & a couple of flyscreen doors plus couple of aluminium windows off the side of the road from a council pickup. All i've had to buy is a heap of tech screws. All i need now is something to line it out with. Trev Aus |

Im still not sure :-/ giprock is cheap but to get it out there without damaging it could be a problem, & i want something a bit tougher & water resistant, plus i have to keep the freebe theme goin ;) My old mans mate knocks houses down for a living, he told me a few months ago to give him a list of things i need, i havent given him a list as yet, but did tell him at the time to get me a heap of electric cable, some power points light fittings etc. I was going to ask him how hard is it to get old floor boards up, i was thinking if i cut around the edges of a room then smash one board out, would the others then come up, or would they just split, trying to get them out of old hardwood bearers. It would look good on the walls, & easy to transport, & install. Maybe i should cut & flatten out a heap of 44 gallon drums ;D I have started to concrete the floor, I dig gravel out of the creek, & just mix cement with it, comes out good, another mate got me about 200 old carpet squares. I've started bricking up the fireplace, & have made a potbelly out of truck brake drums, but some say they are the greatest fire, others say don't use it as they can expode, i don't know i have been using one in the back yard for a couple of years & i'm still here. Trev Aus |

Title: Re: Sheds and Workshops Post by backyardcook on Dec 15th, 2007 at 5:36am
I've seen those pot belly stoves made from old brake drums glowing red hot so I don't think it will be a problem. If you can get your hands on to some cover sheets from board manufacturers they would be perfect , the thickness may vary 12mm to 19mm but there is normally plenty to choose from and two sizes 1200x2400 and 1800x3600. I completely lined my 6mx9m garage ceiling as well for $120 and you can cut the boards to make mouldings as well .

Thats a good idea, where do i start, who makes those boards, did you just walk in off the street & ask for covers or seconds, the thickness doesn't matter just do each wall in the same thickness. Trev Aus |

My son has just built something similar down the Snowy Mountains, an old Millard tri-axle caravan he bought cheap with a two room annexe built from insulated cool room panels he got a auction. Those panels are 75mm thick, polystyrene with an aluminium skin both sides.... ideal for down the snow country
Turned out pretty good. pd |

My old man used to recondition industrial refrigiration compressors, a few times when he went out on site they were building cool rooms out of that polystyrene paneling you mentioned, but he noticed big peices in the scrap bin when he asked they build the room then cut out huge double doors & dump it, he asked if they would put some away for him, as he has a van on my place to, when he explained what he wanted it for, one of the blokes said thats a great idea, & kept it for himself >:( It gets to -5 in winter at our place. This is the fire at home when i first light it up, there are plenty of flame, but once it's going, it needs stuff all wood & no smoke & you cant get within 2m of it, it glows with coal in it so i only use wood now :-[ This is the new one for the shed, i hadn't finished it when i took this photo, it know has a 10mm solid top, with a piece of old hydrolic ram with a butterfly in it for the start of the chimny. The top plate is plenty big enough for cooking or heating up water. You open the bottom door to empty the ash try & use it to regulate the amount of air, with the butterfly & the bottom door fully open it draws that hard that it raws & the bottom couple of feet of the stainless chimny glows. Trev, that brazier made from truck brake drums is a beauty. I went to the camp oven cooking contest at Millmerran last year and noticed several groups had camp ovens made from truck rims, A plough disc or piece of plate welded in for the base, another for the lid, handles welded on in the appropiate places and you're in business, a 20" or 24" camp oven ! To lift them on or off the fire you need a crow bar thru the handles and two strong blokes, feed an army.

Thanks heaps that gives me a place to start :) One of my neihbours has a fire in his back yard, made out of old split bus rims, it works great to, we never thought of cooking in it. 4 families in my street hang out together, we started out 16yrs ago having BBQ's, half a 44 fire & plenty of grog, we are always looking for new idea's, we progressed to old washing machine tubs & roasts in the hooded barby. These days it's, brake drum fires & roasts in the camp oven, i've hooked up foxtel (shhhh) to all their back yards, so we can have a feed, drink alot & watch the footy (real footy ;)) It happens pretty often, we finish mowing etc, then wander into the front fence & talk, then someone eventualy says is it to early for a beer ;D later the shiellas come out & say want do you want to do for dinner, if it's getting cold, we have an old washing machine tub welded on top of a shopping trolley base, it gets rolled out the front & we don't move for the rest of the night Trev Aus |

Title: Re: Sheds and Workshops Post by Trev aus on Mar 11th, 2008 at 1:18pm
Well just got back from a couple of weeks up the bush.
I was trying to get more done for easter as we have a croud coming up. ;D There was some progress to the shed, the heater is finished, after diggin gravel from the creek for the slab, it was mixed with cement & came out great, after i knocked off for the arvo, I had a beer & was looking at the new base for the heater, i put some of the excess gravel into my dish & yes there was a few colours in it, gold that is. 8-) The next day it was back to the creek to find some sand for the brick laying, after filling the trailer, the old sierra was working hard to drag it back to camp, but it was ####, to much rock in it & the bricks were rocken every where, so i gave it away. Ted an old mate said i know where there is good sand, an old hill covered in grass, once we took the grass of it was good fine sand, there was an old gold stamper there 130 years ago & the tailings were perfect for mortar. So the walls arn't true but my fist go at bricklaying came out ok. I then run out of bricks, No problem Garson has some second hand one, he gave me a hundred to finish the job, only cost me a 6 pack, & then i drank 3 of them with him. (then a few more) that day was finished. Then what to do for the top, i cut up our old dunny that blew over, :'( for a base, some stringy bark props to hold it up, then from the local tip some old fence for reo, then 4 inch's of creek concrete on top. An old billy with a leaky bottom held the concrete back, so the stainless chimny (don't ask) could be dropped through, Then the brake drum heater was put in place, it works great, the only problem i see is it being to hot. To dress up the front again the old dunny walls were cut up, & an old cupboard draw that was laying in the dirt at Teds gave up it brass handles, a piece of marine ply from the tip for a mantle piece. I only planned on staying a week, so by the second week i started to run out of rations, so i was lucky when a young goat wanded into range of my out door breakfast table, yum, into the gas fridge, then some in the camp oven some on the BBQ, my dog sandy was happy to. It's liver went into the yabbie trap, i got 28 on the first try, so up to TED & Jens for desert. Teds garden was booming so me & sandy would wander up in the late arvo & have a feed of apples, pears, corn on the cob, cheery tomatoes, & baked pumpkin. Sandy loves apple cores & whats left of the raw corn when i'm finished with it. Ted decided to kill 2, 12month old sheep so then we had lamb chops comin out our ears. I have a little GMC generator & had extention cords running every where, so i dug a trench over to an old rusted out iron water tank that was given to me, it is the new generator come wood shed. The sheds now have a fuse box, power points, the lamps, TV & DVD know have switches, instead of pulling extension cords. A good tip, my mate said try enegy saver globes with the little genny, i can have 5 of them going with the telly & it's hardly working. What else, did some painting on the shed, did 2 days with garson workin on zooks, me Ted & garson cut wood for 2 days, good white box & some crappy wooliebutt. Oh yeah time flies up there, I had built a new sink/bench out of old pallet & needed to extend the tap out, so up to teds with a heap of gal & plastic fittings, we found a bit of old 3/4 gal pipe laying in Teds paddock, i needed it 13inch long threaded both ends, he said no problem he pulled out a old rusty die & handle, this thing was 2 foot across, after fixing the loose vice we cut threads on both ends, home again, idiot the outlet on the tank is 1inch, so up to Garsons, still no good, we went through buckets of fittings with no luck, so the stick welder made the connection from 3/4 to 1inch, a few more beers & that day is also over. Ted comes down, the horse we dragged to it's feet the day before had died, & was with in smelling distance of the house, so the zook did the job of dragging the couple hunded kg horse to the bottom paddock (bone yard) could have been more dog food but we didn't know what killed the young fit horse, maybe a snake. Old mavas is an 84 yr old top sheilla, very witty, I love stirring her up, she takes it well, especially when i go on about the real footy (league) not ping pong. Her house burnt down 12 months ago while she was in hospital, one of her rams knocked her over & busted her knee. I asked if she had ever been to the top of the hill over lookin Teds, it looks the other way at MT Conabalis, she was keen, so after using a milk crate to get her in the zook, we took the rough (low range) fire trail up the hill, i kept saying is it to rough & she would smile & say i love the bush & i'm really enjoying myself, we had a good couple of hrs, but i think she was worn out when we got back. Any way a good couple of weeks away from the rat race. Sandy on our way home. Trev Aus |

Title: Re: Sheds and Workshops Post by Trev aus on Mar 12th, 2008 at 8:04am
Thanks, & sorry if i go on about it :-[ i love the place.
I have 2 zooks an 83 1 litre, we just put lifted springs in it, but now the rear shocks are running out of travel ::) it looks good & i can pretty much take it anywhere without anyone taking notice (unregestered) The other an 84 1300 with lifted springs & body is pretty rough with no roof & no doors. Ted & i took it exploring looking for some good whitebox, we ended up finding an old mining camp we didn't know was there, fireplaces old foundations & a deep mine. On the way back we turned the wrong way (old fire trails) & ended up on the main road, it must have been change of shift as the miners all came out the gate & followed us, so here we are with a line of cars behind us doing 60kays, the old girl was vibrating something shocking, it has a good dent in the tailshaft, Ted was trying to hold the vinal roof (old water bed liner from the tip) from ripping off the teck screws. With no tail lights after a few kays it was arm out the window (if there was one) to turn off, as i looked back there were smiles & thumbs up from the traffic. The recycler ;) Trev Aus |

Title: Re: Sheds and Workshops Post by Trev aus on Mar 26th, 2008 at 6:32am
The heater went all weekend, keeping us warm & keepin the water on the boil.
the only problem was when i tried to slow it right down it would smoke out the front, opening the buttifly a touch fixed that. We did yabbies in the oven, & cooked some pears of our tree for desert. We have always used a canvas bag type shower, but some newbies struggled with it, they would turn it off to tight then it wouldn't restart (i got sick of pulling it apart) So this is mark 2, 10 bucks in parts from bunnings. I looked for the softest tap i could find, it ended up being a toilet certern tap. Inside i screwed a pipe blank ( not sure of it's real name) into the top then slowly drilled it out a few sizes untill it flowed ok, everyone said it was easier to use, & you could see how much water you had left. So thought a good few brews in it would be just the thing to christen it up. One beer led to another and before dark we had my pool table transferred and the beers where flying, thought I better throw a stew on for tea. What a night. I don't expect it to stay this clean for long. Jono BTW - Great thread this one. Some good stuff PB290911__Large_.JPG (107 KB | ) PB290912__Large_.JPG (109 KB | ) PB290923__Large_.JPG (104 KB | ) |

Some great shed pics there blokes.
Too embarrassed about mine to do a pic. Half the time I go in there it takes me twice as long to get out again. :-? Muzz. So many steels, so few knives. Do you only use them to sharpen scissors? ;) mike l |

what gets me is i go into shed to find
something & come out with what i was looking for the day before :-/ is it something to do with age :'( Daryl |
|
Title: Re: Sheds and Workshops Post by mikel on Apr 10th, 2011 at 7:14pm
Talk about age Daryl, I've got "one and a half braces" of birds hanging ready for Thora (raised you by 1/2 brace Muzz) but cant remember whether they should be hung by the feet or the neck. :-/
So to be sure they will be ok have wrapped them in a spud bag and they can stay in the back of the truck till we get there. :o I reckon shed chaos to be a very personal thing, bit like my other personal adage: "never trust a bloke who doesnt drink". :-? Which reminds me, my subscription to the Rechabites Society must be about due. mike l |
