Title: domestic producer?

I have read numerous threads about having ovens shipped to Australia from the United States.  Is there no domestic producer of cast iron cookware in Australia?

C C Only a couple of small foundry's remain and they basically sell direct and only cast ovens on direct order. Furphys sold their molds to China a few years so all new Furphys come from there.
Genuine old "Made in Australia" ovens are hard to get and getting rarer and more expensive.

CC.
As PD says, the local CO manufacture is pretty much a goner.
I looked at the Chinese Furphy ovens yesterday in Tamworth. Very much bottom end Chinese quality, rough castings and sloppy fitting lids.
The 10" at $99 was a very overpriced oven. In my (humble) opinion, only paying for the name on the lid.
The cheap Chinese ones cook just as well. The last time I bought one I picked through them to match a well fitting lid to the base.
Does a job for me. (not that I really need anymore!) :-/

Fortunately, I live a 30 minute drive from one of Lodge's three factory outlets.

It's sad that so many countries are so willingly allowing production to move to China.
