Title: Christmas break broken
Post by sooty on Dec 27th, 2007 at 10:59pm
After a quiet but great few days over Christmas, the missus took the dog for a walk this afternoon along the river.
Just settled into the first beer of the day around 4.30 and get a phone call.

"I have slipped over in the mud (we have had 6" of rain since Christmas day) and think I have broken my wrist."

So I ignore my beer, jump in the ute and head down to her.
Wrist is swollen and looks bad so ring ambulance.
Ambulance comes, off to hospital.
Me 2 cars and dog to get home.
Inlaws come and drive 1 car and I take dog and other home then go to hospital.
5 hours later after operation, wrist bones are wired back together.
I get home and beer is hot and flat.

Guess who will be doing all the housework for the next 6 weeks ?????

There goes my trip next week, but at least we are all still in one piece and that is what matters most.
I have had the Old Girl for 29 years and am a bit used to having her around

Oh Soot, Happy New Year to you and yours!!!!!!!

:-?

What with a bum foot, I go down 'poof' with the smallest of unsuspected slippery spots, I am most sympathetic to your DW.

I also know another lass (electroniclally speaking) who broke her wrist and required several pins.  That was a couple of weeks ago and the original doctors are pleased with her progress.  They are even letting her keep to plan A, which is to go south to Florida for January to April and have physiotherapy there.

We will look forward to lots of pics of hunger inducing meals in your CO.

Hey Sooty,
I hope she is on the mend. And all is well at the Sooty station. With all that house work to do there won't be enough time to have a news years drink.

Struth Sooty, this is not good, you realize of course that once you start doing all those jobs around the place it's almost impossible to go back to how it was before ?

My sympathy to your missus, I broke my wrist years ago and have several pins in it, they are never the same again, it gives me heaps.

BTW I hope you didn't tip that warm beer out, ya coulda used it in a damper LOL.

Well the boss is home, wrist all wired up, plaster to elbow and reclining in luxury.
Nothing wrong with the tongue though, giving plenty of orders.            [smiley=tongue.gif]

So there am I with mop in one hand, vacuum cleaner in the other, a floor polishing cloth under each foot slipping around cleaning.
She says
" If ya got the feather duster you could dust as you go"

Me says " how the bloody hell am i going to do that, stick it in me gob?"

She " no I dusted the tops the other day it's the stuff lower down that needs doing"

Dunno what she meant by that ?????? [smiley=41.gif]

No PD I just put it back in the fridge and drank it later

Dear housewife,

Are you taking Dear Abby's place?  Please tell me how to clean a primitive oven.

Newbie housekeeper.

Dear,
Newbie housekeeper.

The child bride has flown south for RNR.
This being so the housework has been put on hold  for a week.

The cooking, washing up and laundry are taken care of in this way;

Using a large cast iron pan, cook your meat, sliced spuds, onion and tomato. Move to one side and cook your Bum Nuts. (Cooking time 2 stubbies)

Use knife and fork used in preperation of meal to eat this from aforesaid CI pan. Wash down with 2 stubbies.

Take CI pan, forkenknife and 1 stubby into shower, place cooking gear on shower floor and stubby within easy reach.

Observe clothing in mirror and debate as to will I get tomorra out of it ? If so bundle in corner, if not leave it on.

Enter shower and proceed to soap soiled clothing and lather up, leave on for time it takes to drink half stubby, rinse well and remove.

{If clothing was very dirty and you drank the full stubby, leave shower on and  replace with full one from fridge, leaving a wet trail from shower to fridge and back}

Remove underwear and use to clean CI pan and forkenknife then body.

Finish beer, throw wet clothing in corner, get another stubby, dry yourself, throw wet towel in corner, get another stubby, retrieve CI and forkenknife allow to drip dry till tomorra, get a stubby.

Forget wet clothing and towel  in corner for 2 days or the night before the boss is due home

How to clean a primitive oven ?. Hot water and elbow grease no soap or put it in the shower.

Love ABBY

Sheesh Abby,

If I wash me drubs in the shower at the same time I apply soap to meself, I at least hang them on the shower rod.  & then that ain't put off 'til tomorrow.

What I wants ta know is howsn' ye cleans a primitive oven when food is cooked dry (cause I had too many stubbies and ferget it)

Shower soak was no durn gud.

p.s. Where is the Soot's progeny?

G'day All,
Well, this is my second attemp here. The other day I'd painstakingly tapped out a reply & for reasons unknown, lost it all due to a connection problem >:( >:( >:(
Anyway, that's technology for ya!

I enjoyed that post of yours Soot, re the practical advice on cooking, washing up & laundry! Wasn't laughing at the circumstances though, that's no good at all. Hope your 'trouble & strife' is making good progress with her recovery. With such an able bodied off-sider, I've no doubt she's enjoying the respite from the daily grind as much as possible. One thing though, was that advice an extract straight out of the 'How To Be A Better Wife' book? ;D

Hey Muzz, if ya find yourself reading this, be sure & tell Soot that yarn about the 'feather duster dog'? Since he's reaquainted himself with this bit of apparatus, he'd surely appreciate it  ;D ;D

Furpy, hope you're on the mend & back to 'business as usual'. That sounds like a bloody rough stint ya had over xmas. Trust you've got it sorted now. You might have to indulge in a bit more than usual 'easy liv'in' for a spell.

PD, I reckon you're onto it with the warm beer in the damper - that's a winner for sure :P. Dunno how flash it'd be on the second go but 'The Soot' wasn't going to let fear hold him back ;)!

Derek, I'll have to remember that line about dust on the TV, it's a ripper. Will run it past 'The Minister' when I'm feeling game. Might find myself on 'the wallaby'!
Hooroo for now [smiley=1.gif]

Soot the other e-acquaintance of mine who had a broken wing has now finished her physio after a month of it.

It sounds like your side kick had a worse break though.

BTW have ye had a chance to get out and catch a fish?  Or been able to send the offspring out to do the catching?

:-?

No probs Kev. Glad to hear news of good recovery from anyone. It's a bummer when misfortune strikes like that. Don't underestimate the power of massage in association with other treatment like physio, try to do a bit as soon as possible. Gets the stale fluids moving out & all the goodies moving in, with improved circulation. Just another chore Abby, just another chore ;D ;D
