Thought some of you might be interested in my Maggie Mates. The most in one feeding session is 33 and as you can see they are nearly all young ones. They are especially fond of dog roll diced up and are my constant companions when gardening (pulling weeds only) they really enjoy any tasty grubs or worms that are disturbed. They get so close & underfoot I have to be careful not to hit them with the hoe.

I can tell you their songs and warbles are very melodious and they make me feel happy not matter what a cow of a day I've had. :)

I live in a small community surrounded by bush, the nearest town is 22 kms away. A few years ago a huge bushfire ripped thru the joint and wiped out everything except our town due more to good luck than good bushfire management. Any way since then birdlife has more than trebled and we have native birds we never saw before the fire.
Most days a flock of over a hundred black cockatoos pass over, you can hear them coming and going for ten minutes. We also have large numbers of rainbow lorikeets, sulphur crested cockatoos (who hasn't) and of course magpies. Never appreciated birds before but now, like The Roosel, I enjoy their presence.

Please enlighten an outlander.  Are the young birds the ones with a lighter plumage?  & the mature ones with the darker feathers?

You got it right LK, the light colored ones are the young ones.

The magpie voice is quite beautiful actually.  Here is what it sounds like.
