Title: Martabak - Indonesian Pancakes
Post by Sea_Mistress on Feb 3rd, 2008 at 7:06am
I had a very Asian experience day yesterday.  First stop was the Chinese New Year Festival Stalls in that Park near Central.
All kinds of food of course.   My eyes were instantly drawn to what appeared cast iron pans and they were cooking thick
Indonesian Pancakes.  I stopped to watch as I feel a picture is worth a thousand words  :D.

The mixture was poured in and then when it almost looked cooked a lid put on it.  It was then taken out of the pan and
spread with butter, then crushed nuts, cheese and chocolate were sprinkled on top and it was folded over.  A lady standing
next to me told me her husband loved it and she was taking one home for him.  I was surprised she never made it herself.

It would make a wonderful large dessert pancake when camping.

This morning on google I found that it can be made sweet or savoury. Also it could be made with or without yeast, but
I liked this site.

Good pictures of the final result here:

I have a batch sitting waiting but I will do it on the electric stove so cant really show that as an example of CO cooking  :D
