TUENA is a quiet little town tucked away near the Abercrombie River in NSW.
There is a large informal camping ground which is suitable for Groups or individuals or families. There are Clean Toilets and showers (Take your $1.00 coins) and powered sites are available if you really need them.
Great place for open fire cooking and socialising.
You should take Drinking water in with you. Water is available but is from a tank which has to be filled by tanker, which the town has to foot the bill.
Camping is FREE except for powered sites which will cost you $5.00 per day.

Tuena is an old Goldrush town which dates back to the very earliest days of the "RUSH" in Australia.
There is not a lot to the town nowadays but it does boast the Oldest Wattle & Daube construction Hotel still trading in Australia. There is also a small wattle & daube cottage cottage which dates back to the 1860's as well as a number of churches and other buildings.
It's a great place to stay and just get away and do nothing, or you can try your luck looking for gold in the creeks.  Abercrombie caves is only a short drive down the road.
The Pub is a top place with good tucker and typically friendly locals....as long as you don't go in there acting like a know-all. Better to be a good listener ;)

Your are obviously a gold chaser, why else would you be at Tuena!!
Have you heard of the old Pine Ridge goldmine?
Its actually on the Copperhania creek, but the access is from the Tuena road. Last worked in 1940, drives and shafts but quite a lot of the gold bearing stockwork was done open cut.
If you are into detector searching it could very well be worth a look.
We dredged the creek there, late '70's for good returns.

Yep I do go there for the gold but also for the peace & serenity, although I have been known to have a sing-a -long at the pub :-[
I have mucked around a bit on Copperhannia Crk, mainly along the area near the small steel bridge, but still researching.
My biggest problem is lack of time when I'm there. By the time I find the right track to where I want to get, it's time to head back to camp.

I've still yet to find the "Rocky Bridge creek" crossing where the basalt was carved out by the oldtimers.
Someone told me its easier to go in from the Neville end?
Anyways, I might see ya there one day .

Yep, the "iron bridge", know it well. The area from there upstream and down gave up many ounces of gold to us in the '70's.
One small pocket, about the size of a bathtub had over 5oz. in it!

The Rocky Bridge creek runs from about the Blayney road, back of Neville ending up in Whyangala dam.
If you go out along the Blayney road there used to be a small sawmill driven by a steam engine. The road off to the left (about a 100yds. further along) goes down to the Rocky Bridge crk. At about 8km. there is a fork, go right comes to a gate at the creek, left goes down to some private property. Through the gate and up on top of the hill used to be a Barite mine (ore dump on side of main road).
Upstream from that gate holds good "flood gold" and I think if you were to put down a couple of pot holes on the E side of the creek you would bottom on good wash. Downstream from the gate you would see where the old timers (1950's) dug out the gutters on the surface. Upstream you can find the drives put in by the old miners.
The creek can be got to out the back of Neville, but steep and rough. The road actually comes right across to the propert (Mc. Kenzie's) below the 3 bridges on the Curragh road but was cut off by NPWS many years ago.

My days down there are now over, alluvial mined most of that area '70's to early '80's pretty much full time. Great area though, wife and I were snowed in for a week camped near that gate! Plenty of good memories.
