Title: Melt & Mix Ginger Gems Post by Carolyn™ on Mar 4th, 2008 at 12:06pm
THE ORIGINAL RECIPE
Betty's Ginger Gems Butter - 25g Golden syrup - 2 tablespoons Flour - 1 cup Bicarbonate of soda/bread soda - 1 teaspoon Ground ginger - 1 teaspoon Salt - a pinch Brown or raw sugar - ¼ cup Egg - 1 Milk - ½ cup Butter - to grease the gem iron Preheat the oven to 215°C. Put in the gem iron in the oven to heat. Melt the butter and syrup together until just warm. Sieve the flour, bicarbonate of soda, ginger and salt into a mixing bowl. Add the sugar and stir until blended. Beat egg and milk together in a separate bowl and add to the dry ingredients with the butter and syrup. Mix well. Taking the gem iron out of the oven, put a little butter into each space and, using a pastry brush, grease well. Put a large spoonful of the batter into each space and place back in the oven for about 12 minutes. Remove from the oven and leave for five minutes before removing from the tin. Allow to cool on a wire rack. Makes 12. Suggestion: Serve as dessert with ice cream and caramel sauce. MY CAMP OVEN VARIATIONS
Like a lot of you I have such fun playing with these recipes and this equipment. But I had only just set up the last photo when a car that I thought was the police pulled up and a large "policeman" came in. He actually was from the Council and I had been reported for "burning off". I happily took him around the back and showed him the set up and he took a photo told me they looked great and said it was fine to do what I was doing. Pity some dont have a life and in my opinion they only make fools of themselves when they do this type thing, pity they cant be charged with causing malicious damage. Once before we reported for having a BBQ Lunch with the same end result. |

Hi Carolyn,
The horse shoe pot stand is ingenious did sparkey make that, or is that PD's handywork? I love ginger so I imagine the gems would be the grouse. All the best skip |

That was a quick response Skip they arent even cold yet. Pity you couldnt pop in for a cuppa :D. They do taste great.
I am under the pain of death not to reveal who made the horseshoe trivet but I am absolutely thrilled with it. The lifters were an improvement also, this time I didnt spill ash all over the gems. Sparkey like most husbands makes what he wants not what I want ;D Reflecting on an outrageous joke put in another section, I do have a mobile and a fax even but still get the odd "senior moment". I think in the other gem recipe they were split lengthways and a slab of real butter put in. That would hold them better I think. I will just have to go try ::) |
