Hi Newbie,
For me no two stews are the same. but the principles are!

Dice meat (big chunks) & roll in flour
Brown meat in a screaming hot pan or CO
add stock, herbs & seasoning. oh, & a bay leaf or two
add following veg (sugestions only)

carrots
potato
cellery
turnip
parsnip
split green peas & pearl barley (soak these in water before starting so they cook quicker)
& whatever other hard veg you can get your hands on

Place your veg in at intervalls so the softer ones go in last, this will stop the whole thing ending up like mushy baby food.

But I would sugest for your first camping trip, try roasting a chook, they are dead easy & turn out a treat.
Just get a chook thats sized to suite your oven & sit it on a trivet (keeps meat up of the bottom)
I use a little peanut oil in the bottom of mine so I can "hear" how hot it is, no sizzle - add more coals.

when the meat is falling away from the bone & if you stick a knife in the juice should run clear.....your done!!! ;) ;) ;)

Mick.

Newbie,
you won't get better info than that!!
Mate just do like you would at home and for me the main concern is, not too much heat just simmering will do, just like BBC said it will be like baby food.  Lift the lid and have a look, if boiling heavily-too much heat- So remove some, too easy.
Good luck, you won't go wrong ,don't forget some happy snaps

All the best
Skip

BBC, I didn't buy in as you had it exactly right. I don't use a recipe, whatever vegies I have, a bit of soy sauce, a bit of plonk a bit of this n'that, different every time but always good.
