Title: Did I miss it

Derek, you were doing a lot of research on CO manufacture for yourself. I remember you had some price factor issues. Did the whole idea get canned or is it still on the burner?

No I canned that ages ago.  The foundry was in Wagga Wagga and while they were keen to do it the cost was prohibitive.

They used to make camp ovens many years ago and were happy to use their old base mold but needed a lid.  It was going to cost $600 just for the lid mold then nearly $200 each.

I would have had to sell an awful lot to break even with a cost of over $200.  That was for a 12 inch one.

I suppose now looking at the cost of ovens it may have been worth it.

That $600 would be to get a pattern made up, which you may be able to do your self, it only needs to be a wooden replica, smoothed & sealed.
the handle is a bit tricky, if you look at most ovens you will see both on the ears & lid where the protrusions are made from two pieces, they push a tapered peg in from the inside of the pattern & secure it while ramming the sand then draw them out leaving a void in the sand before removing the rest of the patern...easy??? ;D ;D

Mick.
