Title: Cast Iron Spiders.
Post by Derek on Jun 18th, 2008 at 10:40am
I know LK has an interest in these however I reckon they would be great for cooking over an open fire rather than using just a flat pan.  Even has a camp oven type lid where you could put coals on top.

Here is one on US eBay http://cgi.ebay.com/Heavy-Cast-Iron-Campfire-Spider-Skillet_W0QQitemZ120274087581QQihZ002QQcategoryZ976QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Derek, I am not usually, a vindictive person and that seller won't sell outside the US, but if you start making it more difficult for me to pick up spiders on ebay I will not bet on it.

Driving up the price is what that is.  & I don't like it AT ALL.

The spider was used to cook smaller dishes when on the road, per Laura Ingalls Wilder, author of Little House on the Priarie and the rest of that series of books.

She used a camp oven and a spider when she, Almanzo and daughter Ruth travelled by covered wagon to Missouri to take up a new residence.

BTW, I very rarely bid as high as that buy it now price.  I'm more apt to hope to hold things to the $ they want to start out at.  Remember, I'm retired now.

8-)

See the photo in the first post.  Kinda like a cross between a skillet and a camp oven.

Sorry Derek, I was going through all of the old posts, and wasn't sure if the reference was to the entire item or just the legs.

Assuming the old posts are still there to be referenced ;)

Michael was referring to Davids post above.  The reason why the eBay link isn't showing is because the age of the post.
