Title: NEW FROM SOUTH AFRICA Post by TBF on Jun 25th, 2008 at 10:24am
Mate of mine returned from South Africa with a gift.
He is aware of my camp oven cooking addiction. Suitable for over a bed of coals where no contact is required. Radiant heat. Easier to bring fresh coals or remove as the case may be? The other thingamajig..used firstly as a lid lifer/remover. Very stable in its action. Then doubles as a CO lid stand. No need to look for somewhere clean to put the lid down. |

Its a good unit. Folds flat and sits nicely in the top of CO carry bag. Took a while for the penny to drop on how the lifter/rest had to be used. TBF Aart |

Hi Aaaaaaartyy
I didnt take photos of your lifter for nothing at the COG. There just happened to be a bit of stainless bar laying around at work so I knocked this one up. Im still working on a bit different design for the 20"er, a lot larger of course and two handholds for a bit of leverage. http://byfiles.storage.live.com/y1puFkYW2EusQ9ae6lSfH-VYe-Qr6do9oOWabRj-LGCtNjEuCtIWwuk87eK26RUf7g7qwsus0ybrpY http://byfiles.storage.live.com/y1prq_fqSPpRbCo8w0nc8WwhJb8nIQkyliqJizAMoIzLwAoiH7QdzTDIxSN1Q3qAuMnbMiI4jHJaw0 Sorry there are no photos of it in action but my COs are still packed in the trailer from my trip. Mmmmmm, may do a roast or something tonight, standby. Robbo |

Well she works a treat Big RT.
http://byfiles.storage.live.com/y1pzglmHrZHUkK2HMoVkiNsFb9wtmZ4eih81Q3oVJlK0Gk6LyYfWv0ANS-AdUWAqyN3 Got myself a little pork roast and I remembered your request about the beadlighter and someone also mentioned beads going out. Here is the little stand I made for my 12" so the beads can breathe. http://byfiles.storage.live.com/y1p-sSJwDygcQgAAPwOoUjCOiaokHCCjTxKwscGQVXB8Wbps425NFq59BgBL4HEBvPE The beads are just right all grey, bottom ones red as. Have been using the little technique someone mentioned giving the chimney a little flip to move the top beads to the bottom to get burning betterer. http://byfiles.storage.live.com/y1pw91B6CCfTM1ZA6kbf8YcUtYJZILxaTkcomqHJKyY4LpVhnhr4qeyCc_6S3SSa0EZ The little Albion already has his legs and the stack is complete. http://byfiles.storage.live.com/y1pmREhpX330q0L1dAW0pNI6oML27IL2TM1IjH7Pz95iRCk0tzIylxByCWmGTQ8bU20 If only I could post a sample of the smell eminating from this thing. Will update a bit later if I can hold off eating long enough to get a photo. I know its a boring old roast but the piccies are relevant to a few questions raised lately. Robbo |

Verrrrrry interesting Robbo, I also copied the lid lifter/stand, found it a bit unstable so like you I modified it using only rod but mine is different again. Also did a trivett to sit a pot on but used old horse shoes of which I have plenty. Will post pics as soon as I can, off on a trip for several days tomorrow.

Great shots Robbo and its looks a handy gadget, I would love to get my hands on one ;).
I always bake onions at least one for me anyway. Even if you dont eat it the smell is lovely. Some cook whole garlic corms but Sparky would leave home if I did that. |

Well there's a bit of inginuity at it's best - & the old KISS method, well demonstrated.
It's amazing isn't, someone was more than likely sitt'in back enjoying their favourite beverage, pondering about - beverage - & how they could improve on - beverage- with a simple - beverage- & whoops, I seem to be stuck on something here! Well tick tock's hit double figures so I guess there's no harm done......................... Hooroo for now, TP [smiley=thumbsup.gif] |
