Now CD I already know that a couple of ladies in Queensland have put out a book with all the recipes having just 4 ingredients (see the pumpkin soup recipe in that section) - I am suspecting you might have a copy of it thinking of getting a head start on everyone else :D. It is amazing what can be made with 4 simple ingredients though and it will be interesting to see if there are some original ones posted

LEMONADE SCONES
You need: 3 cups of self-raising flour 1 cup of lemonade 1 cup of cream Method: 1. Mix ingredients together with a knife. 2. Turn dough out onto a floured board and cut scones using a scone cutter, place scones onto floured tray. 3. Cook in oven at 210 degrees C for 10 minutes or until tops of scones are slightly browned. A very popular recipe & you all most probably have it already. It is very clean and simple and the results speak for themselves. I have cooked this mix as a damper in one lump and it is the grouse with Cockies Joy. All the best Skip [smiley=chris.gif] |

This is a quick and simple feed that I knock up when camping and want to spend more time in a chair with a beer or rumbo.
SPICY CHICKEN 'N POTATO 1 kilo chicken pieces (drumsticks only is fine) large sprinkle of Spencers Morroccan Rub 1 can of Home Brand tiny taters Line a CO with alfoil...saves on dishes later Rub plenty of Morroccan spices on the chicken pieces Place in CO over moderate heat. Beads/coals on top as well Allow 40 minutes or so for cooking. When done there should be oil from the chicken in the CO Drain the tint taters and add to the CO . Stir things up a bit so the oil and seasoning coat the taters. Allow taters to brown up and become a little crispy. (usually about 10 minutes) Remove from the CO and dry on paper towels. Ready to eat..( I am salivating as I type) Recommended drink is BEER |

Title: Re: KISS !!!! Post by Crazy_Dog on Jul 4th, 2008 at 11:53am
No Carolyn you would be incorrect on that...
I am a keen camper and head cook (I also cook legs, torso's and arms etc before the smart ar*se comments come ;D) and I just love making things tasty but with as few ingredients as I can manage due to space restrictions etc. I know about the book (I do not have one nor am I getting one) the 2 ladies have marketed but heh wouldn't it be great if WE could come up with a similar thing for camping. "Camp Cooking the COCIA way - 4 ingredients or less" Simple recipes for camping is what I am on about and I have thrown open the challenge for US ALL to come up with some taste bud tempting dishes that we could turn into a recipe book. We will have to test these of course but there are already several experienced gourmet's on this site who I am sure would try most things... So there it is folks - simple is best according to Skip eh mate? Maybe we need a spot in the recipe section JUST for simple recipes.... Grrr!!! |

Long been a believer in the KISS principle and usually give a miss to those recipes that have fifty ingredients or more. How much stuff can you carry in your tucker box when you're camping outback ?
A list of tasty but easy (was going to say simple but there's enough of us here) recipes would be great. pd |

Title: Re: KISS !!!! Post by skiproosel on Jul 4th, 2008 at 12:41pm

I think a further protest is needed here CD you cant put 3 kinds of alcohol and not count that individually.
Joking aside I guess salt, pepper, oil and a few other things should be classed as basic and in the camping pantry. |

Can we include our favourite Jaffle Iron recipes that have 3 or 4 ingredients.
If Yes: Bread, Baked Beans and an Egg. Break the egg into the middle of a big spoon of beans and top it with the 2nd slice of bread. Close the iron and cook away. Salt and pepper of course . TBF Aart |

This one may offend the air polution requlations.
When hunting as a young fella I would put this together in a big hurry. It was designed be cooked, eaten and get back out hunting in the shortest time. 800 gms baked beans 350 gms can of braised steak 6 eggs Big dash of black sauce all in one smallish CO Put over a moderate heat. Stir regularly and serve on toast when done. Serves 3 The feral pigs would smell us before we saw them. |

Title: Re: KISS !!!! Post by Crazy_Dog on Jul 4th, 2008 at 2:38pm
Just remember folks - 3-4 INGREDIENTS NOT CONDIMENTS OK!!!! and any kind of necessary liquid sustenance fluid is not counted as an ingredient UNLESS you put it in the meal you are preparing... OK Have ya got that straight... Oh and by the way cheating is encouraged...

Does Pig down a Mine Shaft, Toad in a Hole or Rabbit on a Shovel qualify as a recipe ? Quck, easy and high in nutritional value especially when washed down with a schooner of De Bortolis Old Tawny. That just about exhausts my cooking skills !!!

How about a stuffed pumpkin, I guess it could be a meal in itself. Maybe stuffed with a mince brew or similar.
1 pumpkin mince onion cheese Cut top out of a pumpkin and remove all seeds. Dice onion and brown with the mince, pack into pumpkin, top with cheese, put lid back on and bake reasonably hot for an hour and a half or so. Don't forget a drain hole in the bottom about the size of a 10 cent coin. Cheers Jono This one is stuffed with couscous |

TASSIE DELIGHT
Very simple hot desert that children can make themselves. 4 cored granny smith apples big squeeze of honey 1/2 cup sultanas 1 tlbsp cinnamon (Dutch only) Combine the honey, cinnamon and sultanas and spoon them into the cored apples. Wrap with alfoil, dull side out. Place in hot ashes and put some fresh coals around them. Takes about 10 to 15 minutes. You can usually smell when they are ready. Serve hot. This can be extended to include ice cream or custard. |

DOGS IN BLANKETS
These are great fun for the kids to make. 12 Continental frankfurters Pampas Puff pastry 12 Cheese slices 1 beaten egg Cut the puff pastry into squares a little larger than a cheese slice. Place the cheese slice in the center of the pastry. Lay the frank diagonally across the pasty/cheese. Fold the pastry so it wraps around the frank. Use some beaten egg to secure the join in the pastry. Place on greased alfoil upon a trivet in a preheated camp oven. Give it about 10 – 15 min and serve in a paper towel. |

Chocolate Cake
290g dark chocolate (roughly chopped) 200g butter (chopped) 5 large eggs (room temperature) 200g sugar (as it comes =P hehe) Preheat to 175. Line or grease 23cm round tin. Melt chocolate and butter over low heat. Whisk eggs and sugar. Add chocolate mixture, whisk until smooth. Pour into tin. Cover tin with foil snugly. Place tin in a baking tray filled with water (should reach to 1/2 up the tin's sides). Bake 1 hour and 15 minutes. Cake will feel "set" like quivery chocolate pudding but to touch, finger should come away clean. Remove tin from water bath and remove foil. Sit on rack to cool and "set" further. My mum has made this and is the grouse regards Skip [smiley=chris.gif] |

I bought some Cambell's Chicken Stock today and on the pack is a recipe for Chicken & Sweet Corn Soup.
Here it is, 1 Litre of Chicken Stock-Campbell's of course ;D 1x 420Gr tin of creamed corn 4x Shallots thinly sliced 350g chicken meat (left over of the carcass would be good) Place stock in CO and add corn and shallots.Bring to the boil Reduce heat to a simmer and add the chicken, stirring thoroughly to break up the chicken. Cook for five minutes if using cooked chicken or until cooked if using raw. Doesn't get much easier than that folks! As I'm only allowed 4 ingredients. I will add these at the end. When I make traditional soup like this I throw in a handfull of shredded ham it goes nicely. Just before serving slowly add a beaten egg whilst stirring and cook for a further minute. This is not necessary but looks good. All the best Skip [smiley=batman.gif] |

I am not that much into marketing but my thoughts are that something unique is necessary as lots of cooking books are around. All you blokes seem quite enthused with this simple cooking idea and some great recipes seem to be being posted.
Maybe a cover with a paper bag texture and naturally plastic coated pages might add to it. As I waited for the washing machine I roughed up this as a suggestion. Its not my fault if some of you have bad minds. |
