Picked this up yesterday at Billmans (Castlemaine Victoria) along with Mick's ( BBC) both with personalized lids...mine has my grandsons name and year of birth...Mick's has his name on it. Great oven and very well made and top service from the factory..will post more photos when I get it seasoned.

I am in awe, WOW, and won't it look good when it's seasoned up, even now the finish looks good.
Uhoh, I can feel a moment of weakness coming on, a 9" and a 15" to keep my 12" company lol. Good going muzz, I hope you bring it to Broke as part of it's breaking in period. pd |

First season..coming up great..had a problem getting it into the BBQ.
I will give it another go tomorrow. The measurements are 18"x 6 3/4" deep and around 30kg. I have sent Judy to the gym for more weight training ;D. Jono the return trip for me was 2060 km...Billmans are reluctant to put them on transport...there are about 15 others there ready for pick up. Muzz 100_0851-1.jpg (80 KB | ) |

Hey Mick/Muzz
I am awaiting a reply from Billmans so I can order some ovens, Was wondering if you could tell me if there is a limit to how many characters one can have on the lid? Regards Jono |

Not sure Jono, I didn't ask One thing though, if I were to order another one I would ask them to put the lettering up the other way so it can be read from the side it is written on instead of having to be directly above the oven to read it! Mick. |

Be prepared to do a little sanding before you season it George, they do grind off any dags at the foundry but I just finished it off a little more, if they spent too much time on them you can imagine what it would do to the price.
All in all a very nice CO, my chinese 15" was my favourite over the Cabellas & even my Metters, not anymore!!!!! BIG, BOLD & BEAUTIFUL BILLMANS!! I did a pork roast in mine on the weekend which was about 5Kg, would have struggled to fit it in the 15", cooked slow for about 5hrs & came out falling off the bone!!! Mick. |

Are Billmans camp ovens made at the Castlemaine Foundry?
I bought two new Furphy ovens before Millmerran and was somewhat disappointed to learn they are made in China and have been since 1989 (I read in this Forum somewhere). |

As a very happy Billmans owner.. they are AUSSIE MADE as you can get them..I have been to there factory and a top company to deal with.. both BBC (Mick) and myself and a lot more members on this site have Billmans...go for it you will not be disappointed. Have Furphy 10" and 14". I wonder if you can get the lids without the phone number, just the small Logo? |

Subject: Re: Camp Ovens Date: Wed, 22 Oct 2008 12:14:12 +1100 To: me -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi David, I had a look at the website you mentioned, the boss calls me Kerrie Camp Oven because everyone calls me for camp oven orders, now we know why! Gave us a good chuckle. To answer you question, yes we can remove the phone number from the lid, but unfortunately the extra charge for the personalised lid will apply. The reason being that our wooden patterns (except 18") have all the detail's including Billmans the phone number, oval logo and size, so we will have to use a blank lid pattern (photo attached - Billmans Logo only) and glue the lettering (BILLMANS) to the top as we do with the personalised lid, make the sand mould and then remove the lettering from the pattern. Hope this makes sense, but we do have to charge for our moulders extra time or we will end up like a lot of other foundries (importing from China or no longer in operation). Hope this info helps explain the extra charge. I will pass the info on about the 18" for sale at Millmerran to our founder Gerry Billman who is now retired but pops into the factory each morning, he is proud of what he started here in 1980 . Gerry's son Max now runs the foundry and grandson finished his moulding apprenticeship nearly a year ago and works on the factory floor. The rest of us are just like family, being a small company. Hey did they sell the 18", in reality I'm not sure it would have been old enough to be classed as an antique! Should you require any further information, please contact our office. Question: are lids available without the phone number but with the oval Billmans logo instead, as well as 'Billmans' at top? I am thinking of buying the 12" oven. At the recent Australian Camp Oven Festival at Millmerran there was an 18" old Billmans for sale for $600. Regards David |
