O my lord... Watching the Deltones in the pink tux's has been a hoot. I toured with them in 83 I think... I seem to recall the final event of the tour was an outdoor show at the old Toowoomba Showgrounds (which was recorded by Jands for a live album)...

Pretty simple really... I was asked to tour as an assistant sound engineer (Read: general sh!tkicker and gaffer tape dispenser and occasional guitar tuner) by a mate of mine who was the foldback engineer, and did the east coast tour on the 1983? tour. I recall that they had just reformed... The gig at the showgrounds was pretty special for me as it was my home town, and it was being recorded. That was the start of an interest in studio based work and a continued interest in it thru to my time working in theatre as a stage manager (who dabbled/worked in lighting design and sound design). I look at how hard it was to get the recording down for that show, and think to how easy it is for me to plug unto a sound desk now and digitally mix it at home... WOW!!! What I remember of the Delltones, was a group of guys who just wanted to play music, have fun, and they loved the applause... And they provided lots of liquid sustenance... :-? :-? :-? I think the album recorded was the basis of the "Tickled Pink" album, as the band wore pink for the tour... Does that fill in the gaps??? :D :D |

Then there was Eric Burdon And The Animals. This is the House Of The Rising Sun. All about a young guy and a brothel.
When this came out I was a teen who regularly went to a Church Youth Group. We used to sing the words of the 23rd Psalm to this tune, Try it. The Lord's my shepherd I'll not want He makes me down to lie In pastures green he leadeth me The quiet waters by etc ................... House of the Rising Sun Lyrics....
There is a house in New Orleans They call the Rising Sun And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy And God I know I'm one My mother was a tailor She sewed my new bluejeans My father was a gamblin' man Down in New Orleans Now the only thing a gambler needs Is a suitcase and trunk And the only time he's satisfied Is when he's on a drunk ------ organ solo ------ Oh mother tell your children Not to do what I have done Spend your lives in sin and misery In the House of the Rising Sun Well, I got one foot on the platform The other foot on the train I'm goin' back to New Orleans To wear that ball and chain Well, there is a house in New Orleans They call the Rising Sun And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy And God I know I'm one |
