Yup sure did but they are so easy and I even use them when we go camping coz it is easy to control heat. I still use coals but I luv the ease...

Grrr!!! ;)

Good idea using the bag.  I use them all the time in the electric oven, but did not think to use it in CO.

Interesting looking cooking pots that the CO is in. Haven't seen these before.

PS  Food looks good too!   :)

Hi Barb,

The cooking pots you refer to are old gas bottles with the tops cut off, a few holes drilled around the base and sides, and a couple of tent pegs to support the CO as can be seen in the pic with the heat beads in the bottom.

A "chimney" is welded to the top to create a draft but when using the beads on top of the CO's I leave to chimney top off. You can see the small bottle in the background with the shiny flue pipe..

I use the oven bags often as they make things just so much easier to clean and in fact I do not really need to clean the oven tonight as such ... just wipe out with paper towel..

Grrr!!! :)

Less clean up but isnt that the idea that the lamb etc adds to the seasoning of the CO? But hey who cares, gets you into a beer all the sooner.
The Veges came up fantastic, didja add more beads to get the taties browned like that?

I like the oven bag idea as well.
You get to save every drop of juices for the gravy.
There's got to be gravy with a roast.

Not a bad idea, I don't normally use the dripping from a CO because of the oil I put in the bottom to start with & it usually ends up a pretty heavy, fattening gravy the few times I have done it that way when I havn't had any mix up gravy.
The juice from the bag would be spot on & doing veg in the same oven, they wouldn't go mushy.......Well done CD I think you may be onto something there!!!!!
Ive noticed the canoe has moved too, has it seen service????

Mick.

Good point Mick
You don't need to fire up a 2nd CO for crisp taters.
Gotta have crisp taters and sour cream.. [smiley=chef.gif]
I like that a lot.

Canoe's back on top again Mick -- The oven bags works a treat - why not give em a go folks =- especially good for lamb etc.. I even use em for pork but bust the top open 'bout 1/2 hr before finish so I can get my crackling done...

Yo Robbo!!

As for the potatoes etc I used the same amount of beads on top from the start to the finish 15 on top 9 under. The lamb was just a smidge over 1kg so all went in from the start.

Iffin ya was going to do a bigger roast I would put the veggies in 'bout 1.25 hrs before expected finish time (using 15 on top) and it is worth noting that when I do roasts I ALWAYS use a meat thermometer to test the cooking every 1/2 hr after the 1st hour on anything bigger than 1.5 - 2 kgs..... I don't leave it in while cooking - just lift the lid , shove it in , wait till it steadies then yank it back out.

To prepare my veggies I roll them in peanut oil 1st then place them straight in the oven ..
