I agree with you muzz at 25 cents a photo to post on ebay you would think that they could have spent a dollar, it looks a bit like my 12 inch metters

I sent a long query via eBay to the seller of that oven and the reply I got was basically, "Watch on Thursday and all will be revealed."

That looks like a "sprue" mark in the middle. This casting technique was used until the mid-to late 1700s. The next generation of cast iron has the "gate" mark. So if it is a "sprue" mark then this CO is about 230 to 500 years old. At least the bottom section, the lid could be younger. :) Best Duncan |
