Title: first trip
Post by excited_newbie on Dec 30th, 2008 at 1:17pm
Hi all

My wife and I arrived home from our first trip in the new camper.
We went to Bigriggen Park via Rathdowney this was also my wifes first camping trip in a bush setting unpowered.
We arrived on the 27/12/08 left on 29/12/08 just a short trip even though it rained each day and night my wife realy enjoyed it and wants to go back again some other day for a trip. While we were there we had a look at Andrew Drynan Park on running creek road aswell and we want to try that park aswell 1 day. I am going to try and post some photos of our trip.

Doesn't look too busy, though it looks like you are camped near the kiosk. Or are the photos deceiving? :)

Good on you e_n.
Now you have broken the ice, so to speak you will be looking for every excuse to getaway.
Great pics. too.
Did you achieve any C/O cooking whilst you were out there? Can be difficult this time of year, fire restrictions et.
We are about to leave for a week or so camped on a friends property, after the rain we have had the fishing (cod & yellowbelly) should be quite hot.
The C/O's and "right elbow" will get a workout though, we expect visitors!

The setup looks great, EN.  It looks like a nice spot too.  You wife looks very comfortable!

We are heading off in a few days too.  I am very much looking forward to it as we haven't been away for ages.

Is this the camp ground near Mt Barney? If so, I had a look at it some time last year.  It looks huge.  If I remember correctly there were a couple of houses there as well, but they weren't anything really flash.  Am I thinking of the same place?

The park managers warn everyone about the trees. Widowmakers.

Here is a report I did on another forum for Bigriggen, back in April.

We have just come back from a weekend camping at Bigriggen. All the weather was good but it did get a little breezy on the Saturday.

The cost was $7pn for adults and $4 for kids.

Bigriggen is set on 50 acres so even though there were quite a few campers, there was a bit of space between sites.

There is just the one amenity block for the site so it can be a bit of walk back and fro. Also there wasn't much queuing. The showers were 20c for 2 mins.

Water filling spot outside amenity building

Dump Point

Firewood is available for $7 for a 25kg bag. There are a number of rings made from 44gallon drums around the place. You will need a good splitting axe though as some of the pieces can be quite large.

There is plenty of space for the kids to bring their bikes and ride around, or kick a ball etc. There is a waterhole but was a little on the cool side.

The possums were quite friendly though I think they had food on their minds.

This was Forest the Frog at the amenity building (sorry I wasn't quick enough to flick to macro mode)

They also had a community hall available for groups.

Information provided.

Ah yes, I remember it now.  The houses I was thinking of were at another place in the same region.  I recall the owners telling us that the camp grounds are usually full to overflowing at Easter and that they can fit up to 300 tents in at that time - that sounds like an awfully huge crowd - not my style of camping.  But certainly, if it is spread out as shown in your photos I wouldn't mind. It is nice to have a little bit of privacy and space.

Sounds like you had a great time.  Nice camper as well.

Cheers
