Title: 44 Gallon Drum cut in half
Post by Kingsthorpe David on Feb 12th, 2009 at 1:10pm
Wanted to buy:
44 Gallon drum cut in half length ways, preferably as double halves.
Or cut down drum base.
To suit the primary fire for coals in my backyard.
OK you lot - I will get in first - I dont own an angle grinder and I am not a boiler maker!
Any other suggestions?

David if your around the Sunshine Coast ever. I'll cut it for you. Or failing that when I visit my Daughter in Toowoomba next I'll cut it then.

Do you have a drum?

Regards Skip :)

I cut in half, length wise, a 55 gal drum with a skill saw using a metal/grinding blade. The blade was mostly gone after I was done, but I had two half drums. I also used a chalk line to mark the drum before cutting.

Best, Duncan

P.S.: wear ear/eye protection; it make a big racket.

KD,
Once youv'e obtained your drum,
Just put about a liter of petrol in the bottom & a long fuse (read dunny paper) light the end furthest from drum then RUN!!!
You will soon have a nice opened up drum with a ready made fire in it, no need to split kindeling ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Mick.

Never ever would have thought of that mate, this Forum is SO educational with all these hints and tips.  Keep em coming.
Do you want to do this as a demo at the Kingsthorpe COG? We could call it "Seasoning your 44 gallon Drum Demo".
