Title: Spit, grill & hook set up
Post by BillyBushCook on Mar 2nd, 2009 at 2:47pm
Crazy Dog asked me to post some pics of my set up when I was up there at his place in June last year,
here they are o'l boy, finally ;D ;D

on the left is the two solid 16mm round bar spikes that I drive in the ground with hardened ends on them, next to that is the two light guage tubes with washers welded on the bottom which go over the spikes, the reason for this is that no mater how deep or shallow I drive the spikes in, the post is always the same height from the ground.
next is the S/S spit shaft it self, the two billy hooks (one short, one long) & the fork shaped hook which carries the grill, these have S/S nuts welded on the end & have been drilled out to fit closely over the posts & grip with the weight hanging to one side.
then the bearings which slip onto the posts, a counterweight & forks, the black box is the "D" cell battery powered motor & its aluminium bracket above.

The end of the shaft has an 8mm square milled on it to fit in the motor & drive it.

The bearings, machined out of 20mm aluminium plate.

The counterweight used to balance the critter, can be adjusted in & out as well as adding different sized weights.

motor & heat shield/mount.

The fork allows you to take the grill off when not in use, although it is handy, when swung away from the fire for sitting tongs or saucepans on.

& an easy to make stand I made for legless ovens on heat beads, (idea stolen from a pic I saw on here somewhere)

Mick.

The mesh base for 'legless ovens' has some appeal to rectify those ovens with stumby legs choking heat beads.  Certainly much easier to transport than the sheet of crusher screen.
