Title: Cape Palmerston NP
Post by Mackerel Whisperer on May 4th, 2009 at 8:55pm
Well... What a trip.

You can get to Cape P via the beach (15 minutes) OR if ya mad keen you can take the Inland Track (anywhere up to 2 hours) after ya pull each other in and out of bogs with boats on etc. The three times I've been here we have taken the inland track there and hit the beach home. All three times have been the same as this. The 80 loves it!!

Can't understand why the bride wouldn't get out!!

One let down was that I forgot the crab pot bait  :-[ :-[ & by the time we had caught enough fish to bait them up it was getting late afternoon and the Pork had priority. The pots didn't even hit the water :'( :'(

We ate like kings

Lots of small stuff about, few catties and not much else. We didn't try real hard though. It was more of a kick back weekend. It seemed every one we talked to where struggling to catch a crab/fish as well.

Your Suzi would be fine going up the beach. It has timber slats on and off the beach.

Muzz.

Two of the camping grounds have Pit toilets only, However both these camps where chockers with people. One of them is on the Eastern side of the point which cops a beaut South Easterly (No good to me) As we drove through a scud was going through and all the campers where trying to hold down camp.  The other is on the mouth of a creek just around and behind that beach we were camped on, Its probably the pick of em on a quiet weekend. It has a timber slatted boat ramp with large grassed areas for the bigger camps. We had a top spot for the amount of people that were there. Very Nice.

No sandies mate, the breeze was spot on until about 3am then a few mozzies turned up. I reckon they would carry you away if it was still. I got a mozzie stuck right up in my ear . It was in there for about 15 minutes, All I could come up with was to shine the torch in my ear hoping it would come out to the light. ;D ;D and it did.

I'm off to Cape Palmerston again tomorrow lunch. Hopefully to catch a heap of crabs for Christmas. (I already have the crab pot bait packed this time :-[ :-[).

The weather is looking spot on and no fire bans in place. So will have to throw an oven or 2 on the coals.

Let ya know how I went Sunday night.

A good weekend it was.

This time we camped at "Camp Creek". Perfect for beach fishing right on your doorstep. Tinny can stayed anchored & insight.

Only 1 lonely crab was kept. The beauty of this place made up for the lack of crabs this time. Our camp neighbours caught a 1200mm silver jew at night right off the beach out the front of camp, It was a ripper.

As for camp oven cookin, Not much. Did spag bol on the gas Saturday night (No photos) & 20" skillet breakfasts. Thats it.

Heres a few snaps

Low Tide. (Heaps of bait for livies)

Your right Skip, There was a few sandies. On the other hand there was no wind and conditions where pristine for boating.

And the wind shield, it just keeps going mate.

Already planning camping again this weekend up Corio Bay, Try for some crabs again. I belive the fire bans will be lifted at midnight tonight. WoooooHoooo

Cheers

Camped at Cape Palmo again over the weekend. About 18 of us all up. Spot on weather. 5 rigs & 3 Tinnys. Cleaned up the crabs, bout 30 or so keepers. Plenty of crabbing & cooking with the odd drop to quench our thirst.

What a top spot Jono, good to hear you cleaned up on muddies but then you always do. Did you use the chicken frames again mate or back to the fish frames?

I see that Sly character is about again when the camera came out.

Many fish about/

G'day Skip

Back to the fresh fish frames at present mate. The fish co-op have heaps of smallish blue salmon coming in at the moment and they are just to easy to use.

As for fish, Sly got a blue salmon and a nice bream and my deckie got a coral trout when we tried out at the closest island (9.5km out).

I forgot to put Sly's meal in the line up. As you can see he was in fine form.
