Norpro Deluxe Danish Aebleskiver Pan Cast Iron NEW

I bought this on eBay USA, comes with recipes.  They seem a very American item.

Just wondering if anybody has one and how they got on with it?

It's easy to make your own aebleskiver (Danish filled pancake puffs) with this  aebleskiver pan! If you can make pancakes, Cast iron bakes crispy, golden "pancake balls".

Make traditional Danish filled pancakes with this sturdy cast pan from Norpro. Measuring 7-1/2 x 6-1/2 inches in diameter, the pan will fit on one burner and makes up to 7 pancakes at once. The cast iron pan will need to be seasoned before use, but once the pan is properly prepared, it develops a virtually stick-free surface. Instructions for seasoning and usage are included, along with a traditional Aebleskiver recipe.

I always though that the Aebleskiver was a Japanese dish.

Is yours one with a mooden or metal handle? Have you got a photo?

No I don't have one.  There are a few videos on YouTube about how to cook them.

Aebleskiver (Danish Ball Pancakes)
4 separated eggs
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 cups buttermilk [or 3/4 C beer plus 1 1/4 C milk]
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 cups all purpose flour
oil or lard
Beat egg whites until stiff; set aside. Beat rest of ingredients until batter is very smooth. Fold in egg whites. Heat [at a moderate temperature] a well-seasoned monk's pan (see tip below) with 1/8 teaspoon oil or lard in each of the 7 holes. Fill each hole [about three-quarters full] with batter. [Be sure to add a few drops of oil to each well in the pan before the next round of batter.]
When browned on one side (almost right away), turn with knitting needle [or two-tined fork] and keep turning until needle comes out clean after piercing through the cake. [We find that you need to turn these only once.]

Serve with flavored butters, such as maple or cinnamon honey, syrup, jam and brown or white sugar. Tips: You can purchase a cast iron monk's pan at Scandinavia gift shops or at small town hardware stores in Danish communities. As for servings, plan on each person eating 7-10 cakes. Makes approximately 48 pancakes.

I wonder what the difference is then between Aebleskiver and Poffertjes.  Looks like one is Danish and the other Dutch but similar recipes.

Maybe Aart can tell us.

Yep, I think I am but after seeing that I guess you could cook Takoyaki in this pan as well.

Here you go David.  Takoyaki is an octopus dish but looking at the video you could use whatever you like.  The videos are parts 1 to 3 so you need to watch all three of them.

I have a Poffertjes pan and the cooked item is much smaller, had to think carefully about the wording here ;D ;D ;D

I bought a new unused vintage "Apollo Tonka Toaster Minnesota " (Jaffle Iron) complete with original packaging off Canadian eBay.  Seller sent it surface mail to keep the cost down, took 13 weeks to arrive. Dont mind that at all if cheaper.
