Title: LPG gas bottles.
Post by poddy dodger on Nov 4th, 2009 at 8:24pm
While I'm on the road I usually "Swap 'n Go" my empty LPG bottles, when I'm at home I have them refilled as it's lots cheaper. Today I took three gas bottles in to be refilled only to have two rejected as "Out of Date", these were bottles I had swapped earlier this year at a big outdoor and camping shop.
My whinge is I had handed in several good bottles less than ten years old and assumed I was getting the same back, not so. It seems the policy of this camping shop is out of date bottles will be swapped at the same price as bottles in survey so you often end up with old bottles which they will not refill only swap. In future I will carefully check the date on "Swap Bottles" and only accept those that are less than ten years old.
I know it sounds convoluted but it's late and I'm tired.

Fair comment PD.
I must admit that I have had bottles getting close to being out of date and the swap and go was a good way of disposing of them. At the charges they charge they should be able to stock new bottles or recertify the old ones, but to pass off out of date ones to unsuspecting customers is just wrong.
In the end you can offload them back on to them though. They never check dates on swap and go, hell, most times you just get the key and swap 'em over yourself. It's money for jam for them. (Think I'm in the wrong game)

The Kingsthorpe Pub sells Kwik-Gas exchange bottles, I have three from them, one for the campervan gas fridge, one for my Weber Family Q and one for my Weber Baby Q!  Which all come in handy as when one runs out we can do a quick change without doing a runner to the Pub!
They will accept anything for an exchange, does not matter if it is out of date so long as it is a gas bottle.

That is the concept of their Bottlemart bottle shop, what do you need for a Sunday BBQ? Grog and gas!  They sell heaps. (of both)
Last Saturday night we needed a gas bottle, were in the Council run free camping/caravan/motorhome site at Nobby opposite Rudd's Pub, went into the Pub and asked "do you sell gas bottles?" - just got vacant/blank looks, owner asked round the bar - try Toowoomba some chap sez.  Pathetic >:( :( :o
